    The dinner from Hell!

......"I was such an idiot for not realizing what Jae-gyu was really planning. I should've stopped him."
    -Kim Gye-won
Former Chief Secretary to ROK President Park Chung-hee
    27 October 1979
Inside Gye-won's office on the Blue House Grounds
During private conversation with former ROK Prime Minister Kim Jong-pil.

During the evening banquet at the KCIA Safehouse, the majority volatile and hot-tempered issues being discussed included the Busan demonstrations and opposition leader Kim Young-sam were the main focus with President Park and Chief Bodyguard Cha both taking strong hardlines, while KCIA Director Kim offered moderate measures while Chief Secretary Kim Gye-won was trying the best he could in steering the discussion to small talk.

President Park continued his scolding of Kim for not being more repressive enough in dealing with protesters and Kim Young-sam, whom Park wanted arrested. Cha continued bringing up the KCIA's inability of not being able to end the ongoing protests and suggested both opposition lawmakers and demonstrators be mowed down with heavy military tanks. Already aggrevated, KCIA Director Kim stepped out of the dining room to do the following: going back to his office, and getting his pistol, which was a German Walter PPK .32, putting it in his pants pocket; then going outside to meet with close KCIA subordinates: former ROK Marine Corps Colonel and KCIA Chief Agent Park Seon-ho, and ROK Army Colonel and Director Kim's secretary Park Heung-ju. KCIA Director Kim said to both of them: "The Chief of Staff and Deputy Director are here as well. Today is the day that we take back the Republic of Korea once and for all!" When asked if President Park was going to be killed as a result of these plans, Kim coldly replied "Yes." This shocked both Seon-ho and Heung-ju as what they were doing would have ugly ramifications for not only the Republic of Korea, but the entire world going forward.

After reentering the dining room, KCIA Director Kim continued to get scolded even further by President Park, who said "Jae-gyu, my disappointment in you grows day by day. You are just utterly disappointing in your job...... How can you do nothing to quell the protests in Busan and Masan, with all the money I have given you? What excuse do you have this time?"

Eagerly joining in the fun to launch more insulting potshots at KCIA Director Kim, Chief Bodyguard Cha interrupted the President: "The situation has gotten worse due to the government's inaction."

President Park continued: "I should've arrested Kim Young-sam, but I didn't because Lew Hyuck-in (the first presidential political affairs secretary) advised me against it. But that has just increased the chaos." Jae-gyu objected: "The people believe Kim was punished sufficiently by being expelled from the Assembly (in reference to the ROK National Assembly)." Park of course, strongly disagreed with his longtime confidant: "The KCIA needs to be more threatening. It needs to be moving faster to dealing with irregularities by opposition lawmakers when it has evidence, instead of standing idly by."

Things took a more uglier turn during the dinner banquet as KCIA Director Kim raised his voice: "Politics should recognize each side as a rightful partner, and you should be willing to give your partner some incentive in return for having your demands answered. Unless you promise them that incentive, the opposition will never answer your call." Chief Bodyguard Cha dismissed this with more aggressive language: "None of those fools really meant to give up their seats. I will stop them with tanks if I have to. I don't care if they're lawmakers."

And at 7:45 PM KST, this was the moment when KCIA Director Kim already enraged, stood up from the dining table and shouted profanities with the German Walter PPK.32 in his right hand. "You bastard, go to Hell," he screamed by shooting Cha in the right elbow: BANG! Cha yelled at Jae-gyu: "Jae-gyu! What the fuck was that for?" President Park snapped at KCIA Director Kim scolding him again: "What are you doing? Stop this bullshit now at once!"

At this time, over in the waiting room, two bodyguards from the ROK Presidential Security Service, heard the gunshot but were prevented from leaving when Park Seon-ho pulled out his gun and held them at gunpoint, "Don't even think about pulling out your guns, get your hands up right now at this instant!" Seon-ho snapped. For Seon-ho, he was hoping to prevent further bloodshed since one of the bodyguards was one of his closest friends during their times in the Republic of Korea Marine Corps. Unfortunately, when one of the bodyguards tried pulling out his gun to shoot, Seon-ho opened fire: BANG! The other bodyguard was shocked, "What in the Hell are you doing Seon-ho? Please stop this right now!" and when he attempted to pull out his gun in an attempt of stopping him, Seon-ho opened fire killing his best friend too: BANG!

Over at the dining room, KCIA Director Kim then turned to President Park and unloaded more profanities at him. "You too can go to Hell!" he screamed and opened fire BANG!, hitting the President in the right chest. This horrified Chief Secretary Kim Gye-won including Sim Soo-bong and Shin Jae-soon, both of the girls screamed in absolute horror watching the KCIA Director shooting both the Chief Presidential Bodyguard and the President in front of them.

Suddenly across the other side of the KCIA Safehouse Compound Grounds, Park Heung-ju including fellow co-conspirators: Yoo Seong-ok; Lee Ki-ju; Kim Tae-won and Seo Young-jun stormed outside the kitchen area and opened fire via machine-gun fire killing the remaining presidential bodyguards, who were in the kitchen eating food including some of the cooks, who were collateral damage in this bloodthirsty carnage.

Going back to the dining room, KCIA Director Kim walked toward Chief Bodyguard Cha in an attempt to shoot him again, who begged "What are you doing? STOP IT! STOP IT! STOP IT! STOP IT! STOP IT! STOP IT!" as Kim's German Walter PPK.32 jammed as he tried pulling the trigger, resulting in Cha screaming like a weakling coward running to the bathroom. What happened next was when the lights inside went out, which further enraged Kim, "Turn on the fucking lights!" as he stormed out of the dining room.

Across the KCIA Safehouse Compound Grounds, Army Chief of Staff General Jeong Seung-hwa and KCIA Deputy Director Kim Jeong-seol heard the machine guns being fired, which alarmed Jeong who was eating some salad, "Now what in the world was that? Loud machine gun fire?" Jeong-seol told him, "Do you think this is some of a coup attempt?" Seung-hwa wanted Jeong-seol to check out why were those machine guns firing and see what's going on, Jeong-seol obliged by stepping out to see what all of the fuss was about.

Over inside the dining room, Chief Secretary Kim Gye-won, who was also a former ROK Army four-star General, crawled out underneath the table, saying "I guess the President is ok". This enraged Jae-soon, "Get back here and help us save the President." Gye-won told them "You're both good girls, stay calm, I will be right back." But obviously, he never came back to the room and escaped because he was frightened for his life and hid somewhere else outside near the dining room not far away. While that was going on, KCIA Director Kim demanded that he needed a gun, when Seon-ho replied "Sir, here's another gun", after trading guns, Seon-ho knew what was going to happen next and ran to another part of the Safehouse.

Back in the dining room, Chief Bodyguard Cha assuming the ghost was clear, ran over to the bleeding President, as both young women were trying to save his life: "Mr. President, are you doing ok sir?" Park garbled some words and coughed. Hearing some loud footsteps, Chief Bodyguard Cha stupidly tried to ask for more bodyguards to get them out of the Safehouse and when he stupidly opened the door, he was face-to-face with KCIA Director Kim, who was holding a Smith and Wesson .38 revolver. Kim aimed at Cha and opened fire: BANG, causing the Chief Bodyguard to fall to the floor. He then came back to President Park, who was bleeding and sitting in his chair, which caused both Sim Soo-bong and Shin Jae-soon to scream and run for their lives.

KCIA Director Kim aimed his Smith and Wesson at President Park's head and opened fire for the final time: BANG!

With that, Park Chung-hee, the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th President of the Republic of Korea was assassinated!

    Chapter 8: Reagan
    6:00 PM PST, Tuesday, November 13, 1979
    Pacific Palisades, California
    hqdefault.jpg

Reagan making his campaign launch on national television.

Millions of Americans watched on the national television networks CBS, NBC and ABC to see former California Governor Ronald Wilson Reagan (R) delivering a primetime address as many strongly anticipated the former California Governor to launch his third campaign for the Presidency. With both President Holton and Vice President Brooke retiring from politics, the Republican Party turned to the former Hollywood movie star in leading the party to keeping control of the White House as America was moving into a new decade: the 1980s.

Here's some excerpts of Reagan's campaign announcement speech:
Governor Reagan: "Good evening. I am here tonight to announce my intention to seek the Republican nomination for President of the United States.

I'm sure that each of us has seen our country from a number of viewpoints depending on where we lived and what we've done. For me it has been as a boy growing up in several small towns in Illinois. As a young man in Iowa trying to get a start in the years of the great depression and later in California for most of my adult life.

I've seen America from the stadium press box as a sportscaster, as an actor, officer of my labor union, soldier, officeholder, and as both Democrat and Republican. I've lived in an America where those often had too little to eat outnumbered those who had enough. There have been four wars in my lifetime and I've seen our country face financial ruin in depression. I have also seen the great strength of this nation as it pulled itself up from that ruin to become the dominant force in the world.

To me, our country is a living, breathing presence, unimpressed by what others say is impossible, proud of its own success, generous, yes and nae, sometimes wrong, never mean and always impatient to provide a better life for its people in a framework of a basic fairness and freedom.

Someone once said that the difference between an American and any other kind of person is that an American lives in anticipation of the future because he knows it will be a great place. Other people fear the future as just a repetition of past failures. There's a lot of truth in that. If there is one thing we are sure of it is that history need not be relieved, that nothing is impossible, and that man is capable of improving his circumstances beyond what we are told is fact.

There are those today in our land today, however, who would have us believe that the United States, like other great civilizations of the past, has reached the zenith of its power; that we are weak and faithful, reduced to bickering with each other and no longer possessed of the will to cope with our problems.

Much of this talk has come from leaders who claim that our problems are too different to handle. We are supposed to meekly accept their failures as the most which humanly can be done. They tell us wr must learn to live with less, and teach our children that their lives will be less full and prosperous than ours have been; that the America of the coming years will be a place where because of our past excesses it will be impossible to dream and make those dreams come true.

I don't believe that. And I don't believe you do either. That is why I am seeking the Presidency. I cannot and will not stand by and see this great country destroy itself. Our leaders attempt to blame their failures on circumstances beyond their control, on false estimates by unknown, unidentifiable experts, who rewrite modern history in an attempt to convince us our high standard of living, the result of thrift and hardwork, is somehow selfish extravagance which we must renounce as we join in sharing scarecly. I don't agree that our nation must resign itself to inevitable decline, yielding its proud position to other hands. I am totally unwilling to see this country falil in its obligation to itself and to the other free persons of the world.

The crisis we face is not the result of any failure of the American spirit; it is a failure of our leaders to establish rational goals and give our people something to order their lives by. If I am elected, I shall regard my election as proof that the people of the United States have decided to set a new agenda and have recognized that the human spirit thrives best when goals are set and progress can be measured in their achievement.

During the next year, I shall discuss in detail a wide variety of problems which a new administration must address. Tonight, I shall mention only a few.

No problem that we face today can compare with the need to restore the health of the American economy and the strength of the American dollar. Double-digit inflation has robbed you and your family of the ability to plan. It has destroyed the confidence to buy and it threatens the very structure of family life itself as more and more wives are forced to work in order to help meet the ever-increasing cost of living. At the same time, the lack of year growth in the economy has introduced the justifiable fear in the minds of working men and women who are already over extended, that soon will be fewer jobs and no money to pay for even the necessities of life. And tragically, as the cost of living keeps going up, the standard of living which has been our great pride keeps going down.

The people have not created this disaster in our economy, the federal government has. It has overspent, overestimated and over regulated. It has failed to deliver services within the revenues it should be allowed to raise from taxes. In the thirty-four years since World War II, it has spent 448 billion dollars more than it has collected in taxes 448 billion dollars of printing press money, which has made every dollar you earn worth less and less. At the same time, the federal government has cynically told us that high taxes on business will in some way solve the problem and allow the average taxpayer to pay less. Well, business is not a taxpayer it is a tax collector. Business has to pass its tax burdens on to the customer as part of the cost of doing business. You and I pay the taxes imposed on business everytime we go to the store. Only people pay taxes and it is political demagoguery or economic illiteracy to try and tell us otherwise....."

    Somewhere in Quintana Roo, Mexico

While Mexican First Lady Fernanda Arizmendi was recovering slowly from her "appendectomy surgery" back in the Summer, her cousin Gertrudis Navarro decided to take a private plane ride back to her home state of Quintana Roo (where she was from) and choosing to spend spend some vacation time down there for three weeks in order to work from her secluded private vacation resort.

The constant suffocating pressure of working at the National Palacd was overbearing as Gertrudis finally relaxed because she needed a break from overbearing work.

Like her cousin Fernanda, Gertrudis' urge of feeding her out of control sexual appetites was going to be too much, so she couldn't resist.

Fast forward to sometime around the midday hours of November 14th, Gertrudis was in the midst of her secretive lesbian sex escapade with Esther Barros in the bedroom of her secluded private vacation retreat. It had been so long since she enjoyed a secret escapade since earlier in the year, but she just couldn't control or resist her out of control sexual appetite.

Turned out Esther was a hermaphrodite woman, whose extra large penis stretched Gretrudis' vagina very wide as Gertrudis (lying on her back naked and barefoot) moaned repeatedly non-stop "Give it to me Esther. Give it me, it's been so long". These escapades continued 24/7 everyday and every night.

Former US Secretary of the Treasury John Connally was seeing his campaign implode very badly due to the following: Reagan sucking up all of the oxygen due to massive fundraising, aggressive energy with the Conservative base, the rise of the Evangelical Christian Right.

It also didn't help that former CIA Director George HW Bush was in the race for the Republican Party presidential nomination: causing many Texas Republicans to be divided between the two Texans. Some inside the Republican Party was quite suspicious of Connally and never really embraced him because he was previously a Democrat having served three terms as the Lone Star State's 39th Governor from 15 January 1963 to 21 January 1969 including being tagged as LBJ's political dirty tricks hachet attack man. Plus some Republicans just didn't trust Connally due to several scandals which engulfed his tenure as US Secretary of the Treasury during the Nixon administration.

Another key point was that Connally hadn't been on a ballot since 1966. Being out of the game caused many people to forget about him; political analysts strongly assumed and projected Connally was considered "yesterday's news".

Let's not forget about Texas Governor William P. Clements, Jr., (R) was backing Reagan in the Republican Party presidential primaries, was might've been seen as a blatant snub.

Running out of money and seeing fundraising drying up, Connally realized that his campaign needed one additional juice in order to get some last-minute attempts of gaining momentum: he was going to have to go on the offense against Reagan and possibly Bush. The strategy was quite risky for some inside the Connally campaign and many remaining staff members knew it too, with anonymous sources saying "Secretary Connally has to realize this strategic plan to going on last-minute blitz attack against Reagan, Bush and others might backfire on him, killing any chance of a political comeback."

Time was running out on the political career of John Bowden Connally, Jr., the question wasn't if he'll drop out following the Iowa Caucuses or New Hampshire primary, but how his flatlining campaign for the Presidency will end.....the jury was still out on that.

Polling surveys suggest Carey is the front-runner for the nomination, but could have some slight troubles from others in the primary battle for the nomination.

BREAKING NEWS ALERT: US EMBASSY IN PAKISTAN ATTACKED BY ANGRY MOB, MASS CASUALTIES

    DxVMccUUUAAS8Oo.jpg
*Wednesday, November 21, 1979: Following false radio reports, Pakistanis, who were angry due to rumors that the United States had bombed the Masjid al-Haram, violently stormed the US Embassy in Islamabad and burning it into the ground. According to intelligence reports, the Embassy seizure was being planned by radicalized college students from Quiad-i-Azam University, where the student body government elections had been won by the controversial Islamist Jamaat-e-Islami. Eyewitness accounts from the neighboring British Embassy, where the Embassy staff there mentioned the number of demonstrators had been somewhere around 1,500+.

Despite efforts from Pakistani law enforcement officers in trying to disperse the protesters by firing shots and warning shots, the protesters kept coming and they were violently enraged. Death toll from that incident: 2 while 70 others were injured. US Marine Corps Corporal Steven Crowley, aged 20, reportedly fired first at the protesters in an attempt to disperse them away from the Embassy gates; Crowley was mortally wounded by a bullet fired from one of the protesters, and transported into the embassy's communication vault along with the majority of the Embassy personnel including undercover CIA officer Gary Schroen.

According to unnamed sources, some of the Embassy employees tried firing at some of the protesters, but a convoy of more radicalized islamists rampaged onto the Embassy grounds with machine guns and opened fire killing at least 20+ Americans. Soon afterwards, the protesters took control of the entire US Embassy complex therefore holding the remaining Embassy personnel hostage.

*DISCLAIMER: The following installment will be quite NSFW-erotic. Viewer discretion is advised!

While everyone was distracted with the explosive hostage crisis in Pakistan, over inside the Pelican State, there was a hormone-raging transvestite prostitute, who was engaging in an aggressive orgy with a first-term United States Senator, whose personal life was being questioned behind closed doors.

Nicknamed "Vice", this transvestite was laying on her stomach naked and barefoot with her legs being spread wide open as this Senator was thoroughly penetrating the prostitute from behind, "Give it to me baby, right there sweetie" she moaned and screamed as the bed was squeaking.

The allegations of the first-term United States Senator being a sexual deviant with aggressive behavior had been secretly talked about in private meetings of tabloid columnists and reporters, who would leak juicy scoops like these.

One of the neighbors of the apartment complex named Emma Prince was planning on driving back to work in her part-time job when she heard some moans across the hall. "What's that noise?" she wondered, Emma snuck to see where the moans were coming from and to the absolute horror, her body language screamed total disgust as she saw the first-term United States Senator from a Southern state sucking the penis of this transvestite prostitute, who was moaning on the bed...

Emma was so repulsed by what she saw, she went downstairs into a private exit and vomited due to seeing what she had saw, "The Senator is a disgusting freak, I have to tell someone what happened".

It was 10:27 AM CST and the Senator and his transvestite prostitute lover were still engaging in sexual intercourse upstairs when Emma picked up the telephone at a nearby office...."This is Frank McPhersen of the Informer", answered the Chief Editor of the controversial publishing company, who had a habit of leaking damaging information about perceived people by exposing their secrets to the world.

Emma answered, "Mr. McPhersen. My name is Jenny and I've got information that will have huge political implications in this nation for years and decades; but it's gonna cost you...."

    Los Pinos
Somewhere in the outskirts of Mexico City, Mexico.

Following a long dragged-out recovery period that lasted months, Mexican First Lady Fernanda Arizmendi went back to doing scaled-down traditional duties such as hosting official functions such as inviting group of young children at Los Pinos (Residence of the Mexican President and First Family) for a special Children's Day on the palace grounds.

Bringing her seven young daughters with her was a special time for Fernanda, who still looked slightly thin and lost weight due to the severity of the health crisis following her collapse during the Summer when it was reported she had undergone "appendectomy surgery" according to the press.

While her husband, Mexican President General Oscar Robles was strategic and justified of not telling his wife the real cold truth of her illness, chose to focus on his long five nation tour in the Asian Pacific. In the meantime, the behind closed doors strategy between Oscar and close senior administration officials covering up the serious prognosis of Fernanda's terminal illness was successfully working (she was diagnosed with advanced cervical cancer). This cover-up in not telling Fernanda the truth was continuing to work non-stop, even the butlers and maids were told not telling the First Lady that she was dying.

Meanwhile, Fernanda continued working 24/7 in pushing anti-poverty initiatives, rolling out infrastructure projects across Mexico; hosting members of the Diplomatic Corps at the presidential palace and other family-friendly events and special programs.

One of the nurses, Esmeralda Villarroel made sure Fernanda took proper medications including injecting the First Lady with special concoctions in order to keep the painful after effects of the "appendectomy surgery" from causing severe weakness, etc.,

Esmeralda wrote: "Seeing the First Lady of Mexico looking quite thin was sad because I remembered seeing her during her beauty pageantry days as Miss Quintana Roo including watching some of her films as an actress from years earlier. Now seeing her playing with each of her seven daughters, all of whom, quite young and happy in make-shift playground equipment was exciting but sad because I knew the real reason the First Lady was dying very slowly and at some point, I was going to have to be forced in telling her the truth. I can understand why her husband, the President of Mexico, wouldn't tell her the truth about her terminal cancer, but it seemed like everyone else was keeping the truth from her and for good reason."

ABC NEWS SPECIAL REPORT: HOSTAGE CRISIS IN PAKISTAN
*Outrage as the radicalized Islamists continue keeping the US Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan under their control.
*Sources: 16 Embassy personnel killed during mock trials on television.
*Negotiations underway in getting remaining hostages released.
*Biggest foreign policy tests for President Holton.
*Several Pakistani law enforcement officers killed in botched attempt of removing the protesters.

*Saturday, November 24, 1979: Less than three days following the violent seizure of the US Embassy in Islamabad on November 21st, the radicalized Pakistani militants have held the Embassy under siege for three days and counting. According to eyewitness accounts, the militants held mock televised trials accusing several of the hostages of "meddling in the affairs of Pakistan and the penalty is death" and what happened next was quite disturbing: 16 of the US Embassy personnel employees were lined up and shot to death, then hung on trees and later torched on fire as several of the militants cheered shouting "Death to the Great Satan". One of the ringleaders issued harsh warnings to those, who dared to escape with similar deadly methods if escape attempts were noticed.

Over at the White House, President Linwood Holton immediately summoned his closest advisors: Vice President Edward W. Brooke, III; US Secretary of State Malcolm Wilson and US Secretary of Defense John G. Tower including National Security Advisor Brent Scowcroft. All voices surrounding the President agreed to coordinate rescue operations with assistance from the Pakistani government. The next day, President Holton gave the green-light Operation Patriotic Eagle which deployed about 673 American Marine Corps soldiers into joining the secret operation by coordinating with the Pakistani Army personnel troops in putting an end to the Hostage Crisis.

Official sources had been remaining largely silent in the following weeks, but insiders from within the Holton administration reported that the US State Department is engaged in negotiations. What troubles that these efforts was the inaccurate false media reports of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia was being seized. Pakistani President General Mohammed Zia ul-Haq, went on radio and television, by telling the Pakistani people that there wasn't any American, Israeli or Western involvement in the Mecca incident.

On December 13th, White House Press Secretary Ron Nessen said that President Zia, in a telephone conversation with President Holton earlier that morning, asked Holton to tell Americans that he was taking "every possible action" to insuring the safety of Americans in Pakistan. President Zia also asked President Holton to convey to Americans his "deepest regrets and apologies" for the violent attack on the US Embassy in Islamabad including his personal condolences over the deaths of US Marine Corps Corporal Steven Crowley and 16 other Embassy personnel.

Official Portrait of Queen Farah Pahlavi.

It had been eight months since the shocking death of her husband, the Shah and the chaotic uncertainty about the line of succession. However, compromise agreement was made behind closed doors following negotiations with Farah Pahlavi taking over as the Middle Eastern country's Head of State, making history becoming the first female Head of State in the Middle East.

Originally plans for upcoming coronation ceremony was supposed to be held on March 10, 1980. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, there had to be major adjustment plans in order to ensure the safety of foreign dignitaries attending the Queen's official Coronation (these plans were adjusted sometime during the Summer).

With the threats of revolution reduced to non-existentence against the Pahlavi family, everything was surprisingly calm and it would remain so, while the chaotic situation in Pakistan was on the verge of total international chaos with the Hostage Crisis engulfing the sky-high popularity of US President Linwood Holton, Queen Farah advised senior government officials to keep her updated on the situation over in Pakistan because the world was still on edge.

It would be revealed that the upcoming Coronation festivities will be set for December 17th.

Chapter 8: Seeds of a military coup d'etat taking shape

    Let's launch a coup!
    7:27 PM KST, Wednesday, December 12, 1979
    Seoul, Republic of Korea

    4383741367564975a1a4102baa2f055d.jpg

In the few months since the shocking 10.26.79 Incident that resulted in the assassination of authoritarian ROK President Park Chung-hee, Koreans were slowly moving on with their lives and things were quietly pacing along....

But as always things aren't what they basically seem!

For ROK Army Major General Chun Doo-hwan, the Commander of the Republic of Korea Army Security Command and head of the investigation into the 10.26 Incident, the time was ripe to taking over the government by any means necessary. He ordered his subordinates to specifically study the 16 May 1961 revolution that brought Park to the Blue House (Residence of the ROK President). Chun and his faction from the group Hanahoe, which grew immensely in strength sought power at the time when the country didn't need military intervention.

An apparent power struggle appeares to be growing between Chun's staunchest supporters and another faction within the Republic of Korea Armed Forces. There were military officials in Chun's faction who questioned whether Army Chief of Staff General Jeong Seung-hwa had responded appropriately on the night of Park's death and many of whom pointed out that Jeong failed in arresting Kim Jae-gyu, who wasn't arrested for hours after the incident at the infamous KCIA Safehouse.

With the rift within the military continuing to widen including beginning to weaken his authority as both Army Chief of Staff and Martial Law Administrator as well as facing strong questions being directed at him, Jeong responded by naming General Chang Tae-wan, who was outside of Chun's band of loyalists, as the Commander of the Capital Command Headquarters. To Chun and his supporters, the appointment of Chang was seen as an obvious apparent attempt in order to keep Chun and his supporters in check.

Things escalated even further when Jeong recommended to ROK Defense Minister Ro Jae-hyun that Chun be dismissed as head of Security Command altogether and instead tapped to leading the East Coast Defense Command.

Signs were brewing of another military coup d'etat taking shape as Chun and his supporters from Hanahoe continued courting military officers and government officials to support him instead by offering them new positions in "the government in waiting".

Another sign of trouble ensued when Economic Minister Shin Hyun-hwak abruptly announced he was leaving the ruling Democratic Republican Party and resigning from parliament in order to focus on his responsibilities as Prime Minister. In reality, Shin was planning on running the entire government from behind the scenes as his thirst for power was escalating. ROK President Choi Kyu-hah, who had recently won a special election in an overwhelming landslide victory on 6 December, had broken some promises of leading the transition to a new government in the upcoming election because according to former ROK Prime Minister Kim Jong-pil, "I was convinced that President Choi was really determined to continue serving as President all the way through 1984 under the Yushin system."

Before the coup, President Choi was about to announce key cabiney reshuffle and the National Assembly had just begun working on replacing the Yushin Constitution. Opposition chairman Kim Young-sam had also just recovered his political status as party chief.

And then this is where Chun and his closest subordinates struck and struck very quickly!

On the night of December 12th, Chun sent his collaborators to Jeong's residence so that they can arrest him while at the same time, he went to President Choi's office at the Blue House along with his subordinates by asking him to dismiss Jeong so that they could arrest him on charges of being involved in the Park assassination.

Startled and intimidated by Chun and the armed Army Generals, President Choi insisted that Defense Minister Ro be brought before him at the Blue House to consent to Jeong's removal in accordance with protocol. While that was going on, gunshots were exchanged between the military police officers loyal to Chun and the Marines standing guard at the Army Chief of Staff's residence.

After being captured by military personnel troops loyal to Chun, Defense Minister Ro was humiliated and forced to sign the documentation in Chun's presence. In less than 10 hours, Ro appeared before President Choi at the Blue House and Choi gave Chun and his supporters the Ok.

In the aftermath of the 12.12.79 Coup, on 17 May 1980, former ROK Prime Minister Kim Jong-pil was taken away on corruption charges to an interrogation room at the Army Security Command Headquarters, where he spent the next 46 days being interrogated until his release on 2 July 1980. Kim Dae-jung, pastor Moon Ik-hwan and journalist Rhee Yung-hui were also arrested and taken to interrogation centers respectively; it was presumed they were tortured and beaten. Meanwhile, opposition leader Kim Young-sam was placed under house arrest. Chun and his group banned all political activities and encircled the National Assembly with military personnel troops. Parliament was dissolved altogether and a national security committee took over all three branches of the ROK government.

    EMBASSY HOSTAGE CRISIS ENDS
*Thursday, December 13, 1979: After nearly weeks of no solution to the Hostage Crisis in Islamabad, it appears that Operation Patriotic Eagle which consisted of 673 American US Marine Corps soldiers and a battalion of Pakistani government troops, who successfully coordinated the dramatic escape of the 100 people, who were besieged for five hours in the embassy chancery. On the afternoon of the chaotic 11.20.79 Incident, when the angry mob attacked the US Embassy grounds, about 100 people which included American Embassy staff personnel and foreign employees, took refuge in a heavily protected vault on the third floor of the chancery, which also had an opening onto the roof of the building complex.

They waited there while the triggered angry mob rampaged on most of the chancery building and some apartments within the US Embassy compound, where at least 50 Americans were living.

According to media reports, 40 American women and children had fled to safety earlier in the late evening hours of December 24th. The Associated Press reported that hostage-takers released around 25-37 women and minority Americans, due to sympathetic personal grounds.

In order to accomplish this operation, the Pakistani government military troops assisted by the American Marines, finally ended the Hostage Crisis by landing on the roof via helicopter, routing the attackers and also assisting the remaining embassy personnel onto the roof, which was down a lower level of the building and finally toward the ground.

EMPRESS FARAH DIBA PAHLAVI CORONATED AS QUEEN OF IRAN DURING IMPERIAL CORONATION CEREMONY

*Monday, December 17, 1979: In somewhat of a scaled-back ceremony, the Imperial Coronation of Empress Farah Diba Pahlavi as the Queen of Iran took place inside the magnificent Grand Hall of the Golestan Palace. Because the Grand Hall could only have a capacity of just 500 guests, special adjustments were made in the gardens of the Golestan, where special tribunes were built to accommodate around 5000 other guests. Among those in attendance included US Secretary of State Malcolm Wilson; Mexican President General Oscar Robles; Egyptian President Anwar al-Sadat and countless other foreign dignitaries.

    MIXED REACTIONS ON KENNEDY CANDIDACY
*Wednesday, December 19, 1979: The presidential campaign of United States Senator
Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) has received strong mixed reaction from Democrats and the general public for obvious reasons..... The Democratic National Committee didn't release any statement, but a spokesman for New York State Governor Hugh L. Carey (D) expressed confidence that Governor Carey would emerge victorious by winning the nomination and the general election: "The voters know where Governor Carey stands and they trust him to deliver on the pledges he said during the campaign trail." US Senate Majority Leader Robert Byrd (D-WV) preferred non-committal during the primaries, "I know Senator Kennedy and Governor Carey well. I am going to take a preferential solution in staying out of the Democratic Party presidential primaries, but I will support whoever is the nominee."

    HERNANDEZ COLON ENDORSING KENNEDY

    RHC-1973-76-editada.png
Former Puerto Rico Governor Rafael Hernandez Colon (PDP/D) was the highest ranking former US State Governor to endorse Senator Kennedy's presidential campaign. Hernandez Colon said he believes the competition inside the Democratic Party is quite healthy and would make Carey a better candidate if he beats Kennedy in the end. Even more importantly than Hernandez Colon's helping hands is that Kennedy enjoys grassroots support from liberal, progressive groups, who always were lukewarm about conservative and moderate Democrats controlling the apparatus of the Democratic Party.

Many political observers give Senator Kennedy a chance not any higher than 20% to win the nomination. "He will give Governor Carey a run for his money somewhat and force him to adopting some more liberal policy planks into the party's platform," the editorial board of the Chicago Sun Times wrote.

    Bullock Raiders!
    1:58 PM CST, Thursday, December 20, 1979

Benefiting from the Blue Wave of 1974, Bob Bullock was elected as Texas State Comptroller of Public Accounts in a massive landslide victory defeating Republican opponent Nick Rowe (R) garnering 1,099,559 votes (71.61%) to Rowe's 419,657 votes (27.53%) and took office as the 34th Comptroller of Public Accounts in January 1975.

Almost immediately, Bullock began to aggressively modernize the office and to collecting certain taxes that had been previously going uncollected for many years. The officials collecting such taxes were known as the "Bullock Raiders".

He was the first statewide elected officeholder adopting an equal employment program, something his predecessor Robert S. Calvert (D) staunchly opposed. Bullock was also among the first elected officials to use computer technology in state government in order to cut costs and improving productivity. He was also the winner of numerous national awards for his management skills, including the Leon Rothenberg Taxpayer Service Award. During his 16 years as the Lone Star State's Chief Financial Officer, Bullock pledged fair but aggressive audits. He made both statewide and national acclaim as well as headlines with long series of raids on businesses which had collected state taxes from customers but hadn't turned them into the State. As an outgrowth of his tax collection efforts, the term "Bullock Raiders" entered the lexicon of Texas state government.

Bullock's frequent and aggressive accurate forecasts on state finances allowed the Texas State Legislature to budgeting more accurately. He also developed a Taxpayers Bill of Rights to guaranteeing fairness, courtesy and common sense. He was overwhelmingly reelected to a second term in 1978 virtually unopposed sweeping all 254 counties garnering 1,288,320 votes (100.00%); reelected to a third term in 1982 defeating Mike Richards (R), garnering 1,791,650 votes (58.02%) to Richards' 1,245,328 votes (40.33%) and reelected again to a fourth term in 1986 virtually unopposed sweeping all 254 counties, garnering 2,416,658votes (90.02%) while George Meeds (LIB) garnered only just 267,872 votes (9.98%).

Bullock would also go onto winning higher statewide office by winning the Lieutenant Governorship in 1990 and easily reelected in 1994 despite the Republican Revolution Wave of 1994 across the country, serving as Texas' 38th Lieutenant Governor from January 15, 1991 to January 19, 1999 when Bullock chose not to seek reelection to a third term as Lieutenant Governor in 1998.
