STATE FUNERAL OF THE SHAH WITH GRAND SENDOFF OF MILITARY PRECISION
The great State Funeral festivities of the late Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi.
From the morning of March 16th until the afternoon of March 17th, the Shah's body laid in state inside the Rotunda of the Parliament Building in Cairo, Egypt. Approximately 173,000+ people paid their respects to the late Shah of Iran. Egyptian President Anwar Sadat hosted a memorial service for the Shah, who reigned as head of the Iranian Imperial Royal Family for 38 years, before his death from terminal cancer. Later in the day, the Shah's flag-draped casket was transported to the Abdin Palace, where thousands of visitors including many Iranians, who are staunch supporters of the Pahlavi Dynasty, paid their final respects to the man, who guided the Persian country for four decades. Many of the visitors included foreign dignitaries such as Mexican President General Oscar Robles, former US President Richard Nixon (who arrived earlier in the morning) including US Treasury Secretary David Rockefeller (who will be representing US President Linwood Holton), and King Constantine II of Greece and Chilean President Captain General Augusto Pinochet.
On the morning of March 19th, a grand State Funeral with full royal and military-style precision in Cairo was held at the Abdin Palace in the Shah's honor. Egyptian President Anwar Sadat was the main speaker. Empress Farah Diba Pahlavi, the new Head of State of Persia/Iran, also spoke a few words to honor her husband. Several political leaders and monarchs from all over the world attended the ceremony, as did many rank-and-file individuals including actresses. Many foreign heads of state also had an opportunity to meet personally with Iran's new Head of State during private bilateral meetings on the sidelines. Following the dignified, grand military-style procession which included members of the Pahlavi family and the foreign dignitaries walking behind the Shah's flag-draped casket as it was taken to his final resting place at the Al-Rifa'i Mosque in Cairo, Egypt with full military honors that included a 21 Cannon Salute and flyover.
The Shah was finally laid to rest, while the Pahlavi's were going to have to navigate huge economic and political uncertainty back home in Iran, where opposition to the Monarchy was slowly escalating and the pressure was going to be on Farah to leading her homeland in the coming years.....
