The Americas ðŸ‡§ðŸ‡· Federative Republic of Brazil Discussion Megathread

Sounds like half of the media is in the tank for Lula
Make that 80-90%
You're referring to the Lula 3rd term?
His reference was for the Rouanet Law, which established that companies could get tax rebates for money spent on cultural and artistic matters. Thing is, only two kinds of enterprises made consistent use of that law: 1) Banks, which will do anything that gives them a tax rebate; 2) State-owned enterprises, which will spend money where politicians tell them to; this meant that money spent under the Rouanet Law was used by the socialistic governments of Brazil to sustain the artistic class(which of course, returned the favour by openly and frequently propagandizing for those governments).

Projects financed through the Rouanet Law were also notoriously overpriced, to pay for the whole industry of intermediaries and facilitators that was created to leech money from the Treasury. Bolsonaro virtually closed that funding, which has earned him the eternal hatred of the artists(even more than what they already had for him).

You're suggesting these folks lost their freebies when Bolsonaro shut it down.

Little update: The voting ends in about a hour, at which point counting begins. However one last drama to play came from a order by Judges for the PF (Federal Police) to suspend some operations they had planned today, which the PF has refused and instead they are going ahead. Said ops are concerning vote buying crimes and the busing of voters in exchange for favors in the northeast. Many crying that this is "suppression" but it is a crime to bus people like this.

95% of votes counted

Lula ahead by 0,90%

It was fun while it lasted. We had a good time at pretending to be improving as a nation. Now we get back to the regularly scheduled kleptocracy, with bread and circuses in full force. The money printers will start going at full speed, Lula already mentioned wanting to regulate MEIs (Gig jobs, like Uber and such are going the way of the dodo) and more of your average 3rd world "social democracy" that wants to have Nordic benefits without any of the pre-requisite education or economic base.

Some times people only learn the hard way.

They won't learn. It's Brazil. If they could learn they would have already.

"Lula thief - He stole my heart!" Actual slogan I heard some retard scream in the street as they commemorated his win. Crime not only pays, it turns you into a saint in Brazil!

Now it is up to see how long it will take for Lula to kick the bucket. He is mega old, Biden levels of energy and awareness. It is pretty obvious he won't get to the end of his term and Alckmin will take over. I am eager to see how the absolute sheep who follow him will try and justify it as a "coup" just like they did when Dilma got fucked and her VP took over. And of course everything that goes wrong in the new Lula government will be thanks to "sorry state" Bolsonaro left Brazil in.

Oh, the hard way would be coming anyway(this time I voted for Bolsonaro, but with really big reservations; it was a close call between voting for him or a null vote, like I did in the first round), but it will be coming faster with Lula.

Brazilians still see the government as a provider; only when it stops giving the scraps of the table in order to buy political clout that Brazilians will change their opinion. IMO, this is some 30-40 years away, though.

Leftists don't care about corruption, no matter what they say in order to get elected. The fact that Mr. Nine-Fingers got elected, in spite of everything he did, only makes this the sweeter to them.

PT was talking about FHC's 'cursed heritage' more than eight years after they first won, Bolsonaro will easily give them 4 years of complaining material.

As for Alckmin; that is the big question: who will stab the other in the back first, Alckmin or PT?

A even better question is: Are they even gonna make it to the innauguration without a stabbing in the back behind the scenes?

Bolsonaro is literally the only thing holding their unholy coalition of kleptocrats together. Both Lula and Alckmin were flip flopping between sycophant ass kissing of each other and barely restrained "constructive criticism" during the campaign.

My cousin @49ersfootball will be pissed off when he finds out Lula won a 3rd non-consecutive term.

Looks like Brazil will turn into Venezuela 2.0 and go downhill!

Will Lula make it to 12 years?

Bolsonaro is 67 currently. So he can run for a second term at 71. And retire at 75. And given the thin and narrow victory Lula had, if he fucks up in any way (like fucking up the economy just to a moderate degree even), it's going to be damn hard for Lula's coalition to hold the Presidency in 2026.
