I think in varies, Government employed ones? Pinch of salt because they likely have other concerns but there are plenty of unaffiliated specialists out there. I'll take the word of someone who has dedicated his life to this sort of thing and is speaking from both knowledge and with a basis in fact. The guys at Hopkins seem pretty solid to me, plus by this point there are plenty of doctors with hands on experience and many thousands of people who have made a full recovery.
Those are the facts I'll use.
You've got two extremes here, you've got people ignoring it and calling it just another flu and you've got people calling it a civilisation killer. Both extremes are not reading all the facts, the truth is going to be in the middle. Where exactly in the middle is going to be down to hundreds of factors, personal health only being a fraction of them.
It isn't something to brush off, but it isn't something to jump to the other extreme over either. Take precautions, be alert and aware, and don't worry about things you can't control.

I'll tell you right now you don't understand the Chinese. Ten million Chinese could die tomorrow due to government incompetence and the average demoralized serf would not so much as tell their neighbors they were worried.
China hasn't won a war in 500 years, and they were scrambling to keep their country from imploding violently before they lost the chokehold on half the world's market and a years worth of productivity. The last time we fought China we were comfortably taking 20:1 odds or more and that was before we owned the entire ocean of the planet.

The thing about woke politics is that its inherently self distructive in good times. In bad times when people have real problems you run the risk of a very real preference cascade against you.
I agree, we should keep a balanced view of this. Be cognizant of the risks, but not freak out...too much. Some freaking out is justified. Though I am just reiterating what I said earlier, we shouldn't downplay or overplay the risks of COVID-19, but I don't think we should be alarmist. If it is that dangerous, we should react in a more sober manner, and treat it with the solemn gravity it needs.
