Kevlar clothing already exists and has existed since like the 90s, the presidents of the United States suit is made out of it.

That's what I always what I thought Spartan armor should have looked like imo.Not gonna lie. LOVE the armor of Starship Troopers here.
Not to the scale the US Military would need, and suits are diffrent.
How breathable do you think that suit is compared to what we wear?
We have to wear a lot ontop of our clothes
And anything that gets through our armor would go through the Kevlar anyway

The idea was to give some protection to the arms and legs without it being super cumbersome. All sorts of research from the sandbox showed that most soldiers would forgo wearing the additional armor parts and stick with the bare minimum because of weight.

Plus the new armor has all sorts of unnecessary groves and edges. Much more complicated to produce for no benefit and just begging to get caught on something.

I always thought that the Terran marine suits of armor from Starcraft looked really cool.
Honestly I'd have thought ODSTs would get something like that. Compared to Mjolnir it's a light powered armored system but would radically improve their combat effectiveness and survivability. Though likely increasing cost as well.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. It was a novel before after all. And Roughnecks and video games were a thing.

I've always thought spartan armor should be like the crysis nanosuit with armored plates ontop then the regular soldier should use more traditional style exosuits. There is a lot of shit about Halo tech that's dumb for instance why aren't they using EMGs instead of gunpowder weapons.

This ultimately comes down to "the designers were clueless about contemporary military practices and recent technological developments". The UNSC had infantry-operated railguns and all the tech needed for mini-mechas ready to be a pain for the Covenant, but instead shoveled the black budget into the bottomless pit of force-concentratipn via Spartan-IIs and waited like a decade to do any "monkey model" research.

I believe the UNSC has all the necessary technology for pure robot armies. Although I could imagine a lot of good in universe arguments against doing that. Well before the war with the covenant went south anyways.

The moist important one is "Smart AIs are already a pain in the ass to manage when kept to rare mainframes", because anything less than a Smart AI, even if "basic", is going to be child's play to fuck over with one. Smart AI-powered robotic infantry vs. Spartan IIIs are a bit of a tossup in cost-effectiveness as emergency Covenant measures.
Edit: Cortana's tiny chip is primarily a very expensive storage unit, with most of the computation done in the "comparable price tag to a frigate" power armor, which combined with the "norm" for Smart AI use being Big Iron implementations paired with a specific ship or building indicates the economics lean heavily against infantry-scale use.

An AI like Cortana could probably manage entire divisions of robots, kind of like how the monitors controlled all the sentinels.

I always like the power armor from LOTGH although them engaging in melee combat is pretty stupid.
Perfect armor does not exi...

Its a good suit of armor, I won't deny that. But I wouldn't say perfect.
