Sci-Fi Tech Combat Armor Aesthetics and Utility In Fallout and Science Fiction

I have a special fondness for the armor worn by SRPA Black Ops soldiers from the Resistance franchise.

Masks almost seem like a requirement for cool looking Combat Armor. One thing I do dig, despite their many problems outside of riots, are face shields though. I dig the general aesthetic of riot cops with face shields and modern body shields and thick armor.

Way back in Far Cry 1, in spite of the now very dated graphics (it looked beautiful back then) was the later Mercenaries that would be encountered in increasingly indoor level environments of the game. First there was the Indoor Guards who kinda looked conventional, but I dug the blue toned body armor.

I feel like they looked way cooler in context and in action when I was playing the game, especially back in the day.. as opposed to just seeing some picture of the model off of some Wiki.

Also it's telling in that I think the Indoor Guard and Shield Guard look cooler then the actual mook in a mask from that game, the Elite Guard.

Also cool and from the Far Cry franchise, were some of the Heavy Infantry units, the dudes running around with the machine guns.

The Royal Army Heavy from Far Cry 4.

And the Privateer Heavy from Far Cry 3.

I actually liked the yellow colored and patterned designs of the Privateers in general as well, giving them the look of a neat private army in my humble opinion.

And like with the Far Cry 1 Indoor Mercenaries, not all heavies are made the same. For example the 'elite' Royal Guard Heavies later on in Far Cry 4 look kinda too solid and clean, without a bit of a lived in look. And very red... loud and obnoxious perhaps. YMMV.

And other Heavies, like the Pirates in Far Cry 3 or the ones from Far Cry 5 just seem a bit too tattered and patchwork to be properly aesthetically pleasing combat armor.

I always liked 'heavies' in games, they're pretty silly when you put too much thought into it. But if you got the Mountain's actor and slapped as much armor as he could walk around with, you could get something close.
