The other part that's misleading is that Blackrock doesn't own those really anymore than eTrade owns your stock in whatever. Blackrock manages other peoples 401k's, for example. Most of the assets they have are managed, not owned.

It's revenue is big, but nowhere near some of the companies in your picture. Its only 196 in the Fortune 500, for example.

Now it does have outsized influence in relation to its size because of the assets under management, but it has nowhere near the power of any company in Big Tech, Oil, Pharma, Defense, etc. Even in financial companies, it's only the 10th biggest. That's impressive, but not horribly worrying.

Walmart is the top fortune 500 company for example.
