Hell, even if they're not going to freeze it the fact that they didn't eat it would suggest they could buy more. Someone who's not a massive idiot in that case would make their grocery run and then eat the old food first.

Okay, this is really anecdotle evidence, but my wife reminded me again on how she had talked with customers back in late February who were doing their emergency shopping way ahead of the panic curve in Germany. Their son was working in Hongkong and had phoned them that day about the situation. Apparently he and others had been recommended to stay indoors, and he had told his parents how he could see people dropping dead in the streets from his apartment windows. I have no idea if this is in any way or shape true (or even if my wife's recollection of it comes close to what the couple actually said), but I remember we started taking it all a bit more serious after that.

Fuckin' hell, this isn't rocket science:
First rule on doing computer help: People are generally stupid. It applies to all aspects of life including shopping.

When shopping panic hit Slovenia, there suddenly wasn't any leaven anywhere. One of our customers complained during unrelated discussion, that he was too late to buy any, while his neighbour bought 16 cubes o_O. Seriously, if you buy single cube it will last you a really long time, unless you embark on veritable baking spree. Massive baking spree.

Y'know, since the USA went ahead with its neet-bucks, reckon the european nations like Germany and France will do the same?
Nope, they've already signed their own "stimulus" bill of around 150 billion, most of which won't actually go directly to the people. There won't be a cash handout bill like in the US. Maybe at a far later point in time, but then the Euro might have lost so much in value that €1000 isn't all that much anymore...

Hahaha, what a bad joke... Save daddy industry, but ignore the citizens. They will do as we tell them anyway.

The Mercedes F1 team somehow is helping clinicians and researchers in Britain in the development and manufacture of breathing aids to help combat the Coronavirus.

Just like with MyPillow, it's amazing what these partnerships can potentially do in a rather short period of time.

Meanwhile, in some local news:

KwaZulu-Natal police have rescued 14 workers from a mask factory in Glen Anil, Durban, where they were allegedly locked up since Monday last week.
"No amount of words could ever describe my anger following a shocking report I have just received from officials I assigned to investigate a complaint I received early this morning," said Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube .
"Inspectors from the department's Consumer Protection Unit, who are investigating complaints of the violation of consumer rights and price hikes, have saved more than 14 workers who were subjected to inhumane conditions," Dube-Ncube said in a statement. .
It is alleged that the owners of Chinese company kept the workers locked in the factory and forced them to manufacture hundreds of masks to meet the demand caused by the novel coronavirus outbreak.

"The owner of the factory has been arrested and inspectors from the Department of Employment and Labour are conducting an investigation. This is in relation to the violation of the [Basic] Conditions of Employment; and Occupational and Safety Act," the MEC added.

"I applaud labour inspectors and members of the South African Police Service for working with our officials in restoring the dignity of these workers," the MEC said.

The factory can't be named until the owner has appeared in court.

The MEC also condemned the behaviour of security guards who allegedly harassed and pointed automatic rifles at department officials.
"I have implored law enforcement agencies to investigate this company. Importantly, they must ascertain whether a Chinese national, who was carrying an automatic rifle and harassing government officials, has the necessary permit. He must also be charged for defeating the ends of justice," Dube-Ncube said.

TLDR: Chinese businessman thinks he can come over here and treat South African citizens the way he's presumably allowed to treat people back home in Mordor.
If the charges are proven, they should make an example of him.

Wrong time period to try that in.
