@Terthna You didn't get a response because I'm not in this thread to debate or discuss, or at least I wasn't while posting the requested data. When you did criticise, if it was of the numbers, I would double check that I had transcribed them right and then moved on. If it was of interpretation, I have no bone in the argument, so I simply didn't bother.

And thank you for the apology, it is quite gracious of you to do so publicly and I greatly appreciate it.

Don't mistake hysteria for hysterical. Your the dude who admitted he was calling people liars and authoritarians and whining about Staff Comms over basically the use of the word 'several' instead of 'couple' andwhilr bragging about googling can't actually confirm the 'lying' source yourself.

You jumped from zero to sixty based on a single word bro.
And you're getting offended on someone else's behalf. Suffice to say, I see no point in continuing this conversation with you until you manage to calm down.

Emoji’s, you used the most amount of them I think I have ever seen on this site

Huh it's kind of surprising. I like using the :p and the thinking one as punctuation style effects but barely use more them one in day to day babble. But sometimes like now it's fun to use a full range like I did in response to Terthnas histrionics where I can tell a full story via emoji.

My original inspiration is likely Hilary Clinton of course.

If only she was in charge of this crisis... She did such a good job as Secretary of HHS after all. :p

I'm just going to quote myself here, in regards to making erroneous comparisons to the flu:

There's a lot we don't know, and a lot of bad information floating around out there; but people's lives are in danger, so I'm asking you to take this seriously.

No. I won't. 😄

The flu kills hundreds of thousands if not millions of people a year (in the same demographics) and we're not giving that even 10% of the importance of this bullshit.

The flu is also an annoyance for me. But people aren't demanding whole aspects of life come to a halt because of it. Shit I don't even bother getting flu shots most of the time.

It's just another nasty in the ecosystem to worry or not worry about and it's not going away.

It 'might' develop into something more dangerous applies to just about every disease out there, once again including the flu.

The virus itself gets a resounding 'meh' from me.

The overreaction and media driven panic in response to it is more cause for concern.

Germany has announced it'll close it's borders to France, Austria, Luxembourg, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. Only it won't, because the exceptions from that restriction are so wide you could just as well ditch it completely. It doesn't apply to: commuters; foreigners with a residence permit; goods and services; and a shit ton of other cop-out clauses. Meanwhile ...

people from high risk zones can still enter Germany completely uncontrolled by plane, like thousands of Iranians who come to visit their relatives in Germany for the Iranian New Year celebrations. You can't make this shit up! Other countries have barely any infections compared to us and proactively shut down as much as they can, and we just blithely truck on into oblivion. Oh, and about that social self-isolation that our dear eternal chancelorette advised for:

That's people enjoying the spring weather in Munich, yesterday on Sunday. Chances are high that many of the same people reenacted the Battle of Stalingrad just a day prior in a local supermarket of your choice. Really, at this point Germany deserves to get hit badly. It's probably the only way things might change for the better in the future...

Heres a wacky thought, what if we just isolated the people who are actually at serious risk from the new virus? (unlike the vast majority of us who aren't)

So we can just quarantine all the old, infants and already immuno suppressed people. It would be less of a hit to the economy, the vast majority of us could just get on with life and we'd have less annoyingly slow drivers on the roads and whiners in retail queues. Its a win/win situation.

So, I was looking through our Polish press on how the whole kerfuffle is going on, and found this little gem

Apparently, Swedish strategy for fighting the virus is doing absolutely nothing and just tanking the expected 2% death rate.

Did you miss the part where I pointed out why comparing the Corona virus to the flu just does not work? Again, we don't quarantine to stop the spread of the flu, and sufferers usually self-treat. Also, the Corona virus is new; it hasn't even been around for a full year, and it has yet to fully spread.

Yeah all this crazy shit started happening in span of 2 months, dozens dead ,few thousand infected to thousands dead and more than a hundred thousand confirmed infections.

The Coronavirus has about double to triple the death rate of Flu, is among the most infectious diseases we have ever seen and we don't really know how to deal with it. "Meh" or "it's just another nasty" are not words I would use for this beasty. "Thanks, China. What the actual fuck!?" meanwhile...

Apparently, Swedish strategy for fighting the virus is doing absolutely nothing and just tanking the expected 2% death rate.

...does the Swedish establishment want the Sweden Democrats to shit all over them in 2022? Because this seems like a good way to accomplish such a goal.

Out of curiosity, what's the correct way to calculate the mortiality rate of this thing? Deaths divided by (confirmed cases + recoveries)?

And when it actually reaches anywhere near the destructiveness (as in actual fatalities) of a bad flu season... you let me know, okay?(y)

That only works after a long period of time has passed, i.e. the disease has run it's course through most of the current infectees. If you plug those numbers in now you'll get something silly like 4/10 death rate, where in reality most of the infected are still fighting it, and it remains to be seen if they'll recover or not, suggesting the real death rate could be an order of magnitude lower and you wouldn't be able to tell.
