In the alternative, I saw a video taking another way. Some westerners who spent time in China thought it might be a pesticide- it looked to them like the same stuff they spray in public to kill rats and cockroaches.

Either way, this could just be public health theater: doing something so that the public sees measures being taken, rather than to achieve anything real.

The Spanish flu itself was pretty terrible. 3% death is actually a big problem. More than individual risk for death here, this is a disruption for the globalized world system. Chinese exports are down a quarter as of last week, quarantine measures have started in Beijing, and the Chinese government, according to just about everybody, is lying out their asses about the real statistics. The CCP is willing to pull out the stops when they think their grip on government is on the line, and that's where the real megadeaths may come in to play.

I think this is could be a lot like SARS where the virus kills people of East Asian descent but just about nobody else. The mortality rate in China will be much higher than the neighbors because Chinese facilities are getting overwhelmed and their air pollution is as bad as smoking.

Oh sure, there's absolutely no question a Spanish Flu would probably cause a worldwide depression. But it's also something the average person in this thread is going to live through, and while I am not trying to marginalise the negative consequences of a second Spanish Influenza sweeping the globe, I think we should all take a deep breath and appreciate that in such a scenario our odds... Are actually pretty good.

The other possibility is that they have some reason to believe there is a secondary disease spread mechanism, but I agree that Public Health Theatre is mostly likely.

Batteries, A Kerocene Heater, Kerocene Lamp, A BBQ Grill, Charcoal, Toothpaste. Listerine style mouthwash, A USMC Kabar or US Navy/ US Army Combat knife (A good knife is damn handy) Water Purification tablets, Vitamin C tablets, Granulated Sugar, Rat Poison, Ant and Roach poison, Gun Ammo if you own a firearm and last but not least matches plenty of matches.

Yes I know I am a paranoid old Squid but my Daddy lived through the Great Depression and hammered being prepared into my head. So please take my suggestions to heart.

Since you appear to be of Chinese descent yourself, no doubt he'll be sending people over there to make sure you get infected too.

That depends on the leaership and I doubt if the worse case happens to infect lots of people any half-way competent nation's health care can withstand an onslaught of infected patients.
