What would be an appropriate reaction then, in your mind?
Not saying that the CCP is going to start dropping nukes on their cities?
Sorry for the delay, had work stuff come up and I couldn't come up with a timely response.
Anyway, as for an appropriate reaction... in general, keeping calm and paying attention to the situation as it develops. Also, tempering that new information with the knowledge that most of the deaths and infected are in China. Outside of it, the numbers rapidly drop. If we start seeing the death toll, scarcity of medical supplies, and quarantine difficulties elsewhere, I would be more worried. As it stands though, it looks like people are taking this seriously.
Looking at this, I see that outside of China the number of cases drops dramatically. Percentage-wise, the cases they do have are being treated at a higher rate as well. Distance and restricted travel play a large part here, as do more developed medical facilities. From what I am observing right now, I'm fairly confident about the world's ability to adapt and handle the disease before it does catastrophic damage.
Look, I’m not saying that this isn’t serious. People are dying over this, that should automatically make it serious. However, when looking at the data we have right now, I don't see a wave of death spreading across the globe.
People are getting infected, yes, but they are getting infected at a lower rate than what we see in China, and have a higher rate of getting treated outside of China.
I guess that is my reaction at this moment. Concerned, but overall optimistic.
When the other nations with advanced medical teams get a look at the virus from people who arrived in their countries and suddenly all travel from China slams shut. I don't think it is an overreaction. We don't know the whole picture but I have a feeling it is very bad. The CCP is freaking scared for a reason and they don't normally get this scared.
Again, I will repeat myself that I think this is serious. I do agree with the travel bans currently in place with China, being a sensible precaution. It is for that reason that I am feeling confident about the rest of the world's ability to respond to the virus. Countries are taking this threat seriously.
