I think the right is kind of miscalculating where the average person is at here. At least as far as I can tell, the average person wants Something To Be Done. "It's all good bro" is messaging that just doesn't work.

I think there's a reasonable parallel with this and climate change as well tbh. It doesn't even really matter if the issue is real or not - people perceive there to be an issue, it's big and scary, therefore Something Ought To Be Done and Somebody Needs To Do Something.

The necessary counterattack would be a different action, not no action.
