Maybe they now use a weakened version of smallpox itself, but the original version of the smallpox vaccine used cowpox - similar enough to provide cross-immunity, and much, much less dangerous.

Okay then, I will directly tell you the study was bad.
Child hospitalization rates are between 0.1%-1.9% for Covid, and mRNA vaccine caused minor heart inflammation for that same age bracket is somewhere between 0.02-0.04%.
