It's a requirement to wear masks where I work.

But since you mentioned the smog, I'm more than convinced enough to wear it there to not breathe shitty air that can damage my lungs in the long term.

For those who don't know, Metatron is a Youtube uploader who often covers topics in regards to ancient Rome, Japan, medieval weapons and armor and tactics, etc. I particularly enjoy his videos and highly recommend him. Sadly, he appears to have contracted the virus. He presents some very good points in this video:



I hope he gets better, and soon. But please take to heart what he says, there is a lot of things getting said out there now, and the truth often lies in the middle. Don't underestimate this virus, take sensible precautions, but don't panic, and don't live in fear either.

It is not to be underestimated yes, but it is also being over blown by the media and more. It is also showing how bad testing procedures in the states is compared to countries like Korea.
Hell, California is where it is the worst and they are barley testing a thousand people compared to korea doing 66k...

I'm a small potato. I'm not the boss of an entire company so everyone has to wear one and disinfect the keyboards and mouses daily.

And public announcements on the bus say to wear a mask lol.

Well that last one will help, but masks do not help those not infected! It barely helps those infected, just to help stop it being transmitted by bodily oral fluids. Compared to other methods. So yeah, I hate when people think wearing masks helps...

It's da rules enforced in work and the public. Try and explain that to the locals near your base if they do wear it.

But honestly if it doesn't work why is everyone else in the entire world all clamoring to get one? Lol.

Placebo effect. It makes you feel safer even if it does nothing. There are soldiers who wear it because it makes them feel safer. Yet they arnt wearing thier gasmasks, which would work better, because, 1. They dint look cool as black masks would be like, and 2. They make work difficult.

It is more of a fad or for those that would want the feeling if being safe even if it does nothing.

It's like getting barred windows while leaving the doors wide open and thinking the windows will keep thieves out.
But if you essentially follow low level biosecurity procedures regarding hand washing, touching your face etc all the time, then a mask is worthwhile.

People need to stop trying to minimize this beastie just because it's pure mortality rate isn't that much higher than the flu. The second and third order effects are what are doing damage, not just the bug and it's mortality rate.

The fear is that the logistics chains for multiple types of everyday and medical goods will not be able to stay functional when this beastie hits it's stride. There are already runs on toilet paper and hand sanitizer at the store I work at, along with some baby products.

People are afraid, for good reason, even if some people think it's all overhyped. I pray that those who are of the mind that it is overhyped are right, but what I've heard and seen tells me they probably aren't.
