There was a joke, one week ago, that consisted of two photos, side by side. First one had "Drug dealer-ordered lockdown" and showed an empty street. The second one was captioned "Government-ordered lockdown", and showed a street full of people.
Thing is, while the municipal and state governments have been ordering progressive lockdowns(since last Wednesday morning I've been out once, and got back 15 minutes later; my brother has been out more, but he's the one who usually buys the groceries and other household necessities), they can't(as in, they don't have the authority to do so) order a full-scale lockdown (not even the President can do it by himself; some State Governors have tried closing their State borders, but I see this as more of a political act - they are trying to show they are proactive and are doing something for their people, while painting the President as inept; there will be a strong push to oust Bolsonaro from power once this crisis ends, and people are laying down the terrain for this push right now).
Since the local government can't order a full lockdown, the gangs, which know Corona is doing the transition from being a rich person's disease(those who travelled to Italy and caught it), to a poor person's one(local transmission in the slums), they are acting on their own.

I get it, everyone's tense, everyone's frustrated, 2020 is starting out as a really shitty year. Don't think I'm not aware of it, as I said, I'm working in a damn hospital around sickly patients every damn day.
They are now building additional tents outside the hospital where I work for processing any particularly sickly patients, "just in case", though thankfully that hasn't happened, yet. Yes, we've taken additional precautions and while we obviously have to practice damn good hygiene on a routine basis we've now taken additional steps, we have to check our own temperatures twice a day and as an additional precaution I'm avoiding contact with my family parents for the next month or so.
All I can say is, knuckle under, because we have a long road ahead. No, nobody quite knows how this will play out, that's the damn frustrating part of it, and yes, already there are plenty of pricks that are taking advantage of this to push their own selfish agendas, and the Chinese are definitely culpable in this whole damn mess. But, we will get through this folks, the world has seen far worse, and we endured, we can endure this too. Remember our forefathers had it far worse.
What does NOT help is the damn irritating finger-pointing and baseless claims steeped in paranoia, along with the shrieking that we're witnessing the beginning of the end of days. STOP IT. None of this is helping, it sure as hell does not help the medical professionals and medical techs like me who are trying their damndest to keep people alive and this damn country afloat.
