"Woke" Franchises

Yeah the fact Half Life had a Woman Scientist direct Gordon Freeman through the hazard course was very disturbing for many gamers in 1998.
That wasn't a scientist.
It's also amusing that Gina Cross and *checks* Colette Green were female scientists and shown in Half Life Decay which came out only a few years later.
That was Gearbox.
I'm pretty sure Half-Life is set in non-descript 2000-something.
The game was released in 1998, the game takes place at an unknown period in the early 2000's, ie '200-' as depicted in the game materials IIRC.
2003 according to the art book.
I don't recall if Judith Mossmans background from Half Life 2 was involving her working at Black Mesa but regardless she was competing with Gordon for a position there so it's clear they hired Women scientists at the time. Who knew 1998 was so accommodating to the sexes.
She never made it into Black Mesa.

I don't think there should be a quota or anything but having female scientists isn't some outlandish, unbelievable ridiculous idea.

What next? Are they gonna put in Jews?!

Black Mesa was never intended to be a direct pound-for-pound remake of the original.
Stop updating/remaking older titles with modern politics in them, it's just boring at this point. In 50 years there'll be a half life re-remake where 40% of the scientists are transgender furries.
Also while Kleiner isn't in HL1, he does show up in HL2, so at least one jew was present...Possibly the Einstein looking scientist was jewish as well.

I hardly think "adding some women scientists" is adding "modern politics".

Look I agree, woke shit goes too far but... this really isn't that. It's ok for something that is updated to be... updated.

You have to put your foot down sometime, we can disagree on what a remake should feature. I draw the line with changing the demographics of the original.
Hell if they wanted a woman in the game, there ARE a couple canonical women at Black Mesa. But they chose nameless mook scientist womens.

Sure. You do you.

To me, that's kind of a weird and arbitrary place to draw the line, but if that's how you feel that's how you feel.

I would draw the line at changing up the protagonist. If Freeman became a strong independent black lesbian... ok. You got me there, that's stupid.

I would draw the line at significantly changing the demographics, like all of a sudden Black Mesa was ALL women, or everyone was hispanic for some reason.

But like, I really just don't see the terrible crime of adding in some women scientists to a game that was never supposed be a direct and totally 100% accurate remake. I'll leave it there though, this is turning into a completely unnecessary derail. I'll agree to disagree, that's cool.

You might be right, she was a Level Four Research Assistant. My mistake, I thought when people brought up the issue of "Women Scientists" they were referring to the whole science research team. So "Women Level Four Research Assistant" are fine but not "Women Scientists?"

That was Gearbox.

Valve and Marc Laidlaw (when he was part of Valve until a few years ago) stated there is no canon regarding the Half Life Universe games. The games simply are as is. You might have your headcanon but that's just your personal opinion. Gearbox's games in the Half Life franchise are official Half Life titles.

She never made it into Black Mesa.

Yes which is what I hypothesized. Funny how you skimmed over the salient point which is that Black Mesa likely courted Women Scientists (Or Level Four Research Assistants if you prefer). Unless you think this is an outlier or exception for some reason.

The debate of female and Jewish representation is ludicrously useless to discuss in my opinion guys and it's not a situation of MK1 or Insomniac Spiderman 2 type of political correctness.

Agreed. The issue with a fan remake of Half Life (that's not ever been marketed as 100% faithful) using female NPC models is trite and pathetic. According to the Half Life games women were at Black Mesa. Gina Cross. Colette Green. Azian Vance (who was at Black Mesa but unknown as to what capacity beyond being Eli Kleiners wife). Valve apparently had the There was even unused female scientist models in the game files. There was going to be a female character in the chapter Forget About Freeman as well. It's pretty clear Valve had no problems with Women scientists way back in the Gilded Age of 1998.

This is a hilariously sad hill to die on. It's not even an official Valve game.

Typically, a research assistant would be someone still in college.

It's basically become that, though. Before everyone started going nuts over "representation," probably no one would have thought much of this change beyond thinking it was a bit strange to bother making that change, but since it's become a thing, people tend to notice it more and are pretty done just giving the benefit of the doubt.

I'm just as annoyed at people complaining about it, if not more. Depends on the context. In this case... the crying about adding some women is WAY worse than adding some women.

EDIT -

I kind of expect more from conservative types, who tend to claim "I don't get offended by everything" and then proceed to... get offended by everything.

I wasn't the one triggered by... *checks notes* too many women?

It's ok. The original Half Life still exists as a safe space. Nobody can take that from you. In the future, they really should add trigger warnings if they're going to add some women or black people or something, just to make sure we can minimize the triggering. It's ok. You're safe.

That is a mischaracterization, but I've come to expect that from you.

You were the one who posted the condescending image... I was just noting how sometimes the people complaining about thing are worse than the thing.

I don't believe in segregation. Everybody can enjoy everything. And if you don't like, the neat part is, you don't have to partake in it! That's actually ok! It's ok to not like things.

tl;dr:
Tennant basically sold out and tarnished his run as the Doctor, the Doctor is dressed down in-universe because he's no longer a woman, and ratings are plummeting despite these specials being for the sole aim of luring back in watchers for the next Woke Doctor's run.

Russel fucked up badly. I mean, we knew he was always Left, but he's basically drunk the kool-aid.

They've fucked up the very thing they were hoping would save them because they can't help but be regressive fuckheads.

Are you joking? If anything, they've become less obnoxious than back when they were openly leftist 5th Columnists.
OldWho and nuWho up until mid-Capaldi often had liberal and Left messages and contexts to their stories, yes, but liberal and Left don't always equate to Leftard/Leftoid.

Since the middle of Capaldi's run onwards, and especially with Whittaker, genderbent Doctor (and that Child shit), and Chibnall being a talentless hack, the show took a nosedive into Leftard/Leftoidism. It's now just blatant propaganda, and if you dislike that tripe in any way, you're "a phobe, an ist, or suffer from an ism".

What I find hilarious is that I have people who were raised (as in kids, teens, and dumbasses in their early twenties) on late Tennant or Smith saying "you're not a true Who fan if you dislike the last decade or so! Don't be a bigot, bigot!"

My response to them?

"Bitch, I'm 35. I may not have been alive when the original Doctor Who run was still being actively produced, but all the oldWho episodes were a part of my childhood. I remember watching them when they were on UK TV Gold of a Saturday morning, and I remember watching the Children in Need Special and the Doctor Who Movie, as they were both aired live on TV in the 90's. I've been a fan longer than you've been alive."

They typically don't know how to reply to that. :ROFLMAO:
