They Found the Samuel B Roberts, and she looks to be the deepest shipwreck ever recorded.

Damn. 6,895 meters is 22,620 feet. At that depth you aren't looking at the ocean floor. You're in a trench where two continental plates are arguing about which one of them doesn't get shoved down and melted.

I do find it kinda funny that the submersible was "Limiting Factor". Someone had a sense of humour when that name got picked.

I was thinking about Ticonderoga and Spruance earlier ...

Spruance is basically Ticonderoga's grandmother. When Spruance was comissioned a few congresscritters loudly said that they thought that she was a very expensive underarmed waste of money.

When 8 Harpoon missile canisters were bolted to Spruance's deck during a refit she became capable of saying "bring it" to battleships with an expectation that she'd win despite having no armour and a main battery of only two 5" guns.

Spruance was the first American warship with gas turbines and she flew a yellow "caution, jet exhaust" warning flag when she pulled away from a supply ship.

Wrong the Forest Sherman Class and the Charles F Adams class are the Grandmothers of both the Spruance and the Ticonderogas. The Spruance and Ticonderoga's are sister classes. Both have their origins in the late 60s.

Ticonderogas and Spruances have the same hull shape, as do the Kidds (Kee Lungs if you're Taiwanese).

Ticos and Kidds are roughly 1600 tons heavier than Spruances.

Fixed. :p

Spru-Cans with the VLS cells and the hangar upgrade are not that light. They are heavy ships.

They're enormous for their day 8,000+ ton destroyers which could go from all stop and drifting with the powerplant shut down to "all ahead flank" and 32+ knots in about, oh I don't know, less than two minutes.

The true top speed of a Spru Can is much faster than 32+ Knots. Think just over 40 knots. Only the Officers, Senior Enlisted, ESWS pin owners and Snipes know this fact.

A Tico or a Kidd is clumbsy and awkard to handle when compared to a Spruance. A Tico Captain can pull off an emergency 35+ knot 180° U-turn that most other Captains wouldn't even consider attempting.

He is also very wrong. At 36kts a Spru-can's very expensive gas turbines start melting.

EDIT: I might be able to get a Spru-can up to 40+ knots in an emergency. It won't be easy and I will have to override and disable every safety system it's got.
