Officers make up a grand total of 18% of all US Armed Forces.

Thats across all military branches. The vast majority of those Officers start their military careers as Officers, not enlisted.

Are we really going with the narrative that advertising the minuscule chance an enlisted man has at becoming an officer will improve recruitment rates?

Because uhhh... I don't think that will help.

I'm stubborn? Please show me the evidence that the enlisted to officer pipeline is so great and available, that it is helpful with recruitment.

Because what you're saying makes no sense.
Um if you paid close attention I never said it was great for recruitment. I said Enlisted had multiple paths the become an officer. You read what you wanted to into my statements.
So the argument now is that the majority of enlisted personell should become officers? You stated only 18% of all US armed forces are officers; that's approaching one in five service members is an officer, which doesn't sound like hardly any opportunity. Are you maintaining that the majority should be officers? That hardly seems viable. A viable path of entry and progression exists, not all servicemen can be officers, what is the argument? That it should be 25% or more? Or that it should be easier?
That was not my argument. Look at the post above.

Dude, there are literally regular classes to turn enlisted people into officers! Are you seriously arguing that unless all enlisted people become officers that there is no avenue for this to happen when there are literally regular classes to do just that? Are you just going to pretend OCS isn't a thing?

...No

No thats not what I'm arguing at all. I have never said there is "no avenue for enlisted to officer"

I said it doesn't happen in large enough numbers to be useful for recruiting purposes.

I see, I suspected we were talking past each other. I was under the impression that you had meant that the enlisted to officer pipeline could be used to help with recruiting.

Zach, that 18% of US service personnel have officer commissions indicates that the US military is hilariously top-heavy.

That number should be more like 5% with about 3/4 of the officers having ranks of 2nd Lieutenant, Ensign, Cadet, or Midshipman.

You do know the VAST majority of the military is enlisted right? Like the rest of the military is almost exclusively.
I mean you can't thiugh.
Lso, Cadet is only for schools.
And is Midshipman even a rank for officers?

Amd no most wouldn't be because officers of all ranks are needed. I work at a level were the most common officer is Major

That you don't know that a Midshipman outranks every NCO tells me that you don't know jack shit about the Navy and Marines.

EDIT: A Midshipman commanding a ship is the Captain and don't you fucking forget it because he or she outranks practically everyone who isn't God.

Why should I care about then when my job involves the Army. The biggest branch?

The US Army is not going anywhere overseas without the US Navy and Coast Guard escorting and protecting all of the shit the US Army says it needs.
Yeah, but I won't work with them.
We have our own boats to use to get things across the water. The Navy just protects them.

The navy protecting your boats is actually a very very important thing.

Like seriously the reason why the US military outperformes is because of its logistics, with out each part of the team working together your fucked.

Well yes.
But the Navy generally deals with thier own and supporting logistics.

The Army does nearly all terrestrial ones not involving the water.

Considering 71% of the planet is water, I feel justified in saying Navy > Army.

By that logic, the Air Force is greater than either, since the atmosphere covers 100% of the planet.

But seriously, the relative importance of Army vs Navy for any given country in the world depends on geography. Island nations tend towards naval power, countries that share continents with serious rival countries tend to invest more in their armies.

And tinpot third-world countries that only still exist because no one thinks them worth the trouble of conquering tend to have armies that are only good enough for bullying civilians and keeping the local big cheese in power.

My argument against the Air Force being superior is that there are more planes in the ocean than ships in the sky.
