US Army Will Soon Have Female Tankers and Grunts

Until they make a universal physical fitness test that doesn't wave away requirements for pushups, situps and running speed that others holding such positions must maintain, this is just patronizing at the most basic and broad sense of the word (hehee 'broad').

Combat arms should be open to women. Those women should meet the same standards as the men in those arms. A potential overhaul to the standards in general that actually makes the physical fitness testing more applicable to positions and what might need done seems like it might be worthwhile, but is something I've just heard bandied about and can't speak to in particular but makes sense.
This coming from both principled and pragmatic source, as well. Equal standards are the only just ones here in principle. Pragmatically? It's not a sports competition where splitting into male and female is applicable or warranted to make for competition between groups, it's a team sport where everyone's supposed to be pulling together.

I'm sorry, but this is a bad idea.

I could reasonably see women as tankers, but grunts?

No, that sounds like a recipe for a lot of under-strength basic combat units, when women get pregnant to get a medical discharge.

It's an ugly truth, but I've met enough former Army guys with stories about it to know it's real.

It's already the reality on the ground for the last 20 years, from Militaryphotos I recall lot of bitching from Army veterans of Afganistan and Iraq deployments, about how they were overworked there, because they had to pick up the work women were excused of or cover for women who were sent to USA for unspecified gynecological problems/pregnancy. And then those women were miraculously cured stateside or got abortion and were free to take courses needed for promotions, thus getting a hand up over those who actually did their duty.

They are making said test. It is called the ACFT, and the score you need to get is based on the job you do, and officers have to have one higher. It is still in the works, mainly since most people currently in the Army, even Lt. COL. that are female are having issues (She is nearing 50 last I checked so kinda unfair for Officers, even male ones) as the deadlift and Leg tucks are the hardest fro females right now.

Infantry, tankers and the like have the highest requirements while people like me in MI have lowest. Though depending on where we are stationed it can be raised to the highest or so on by our commander.
Equal standards are oppressive towards women, which goes against the core mission of the army to promote the cause of social justice.
Not really. We are all equal, but we know the physical diffrence

They are already Cav scouts, which are basically super light infantry. They generally ride in bradleys or even lighter, strykers or M-ATVs. Lightly armored, but not Humvee weak. SO yeah.

Hell the first females to pass Ranger school were officers and they did not have things lowered. It is doable, they just have strict and painful training.

It should be noted that Infantry school is now 22 weeks long, and is not easy. It is the hardest training for Soldiers, besides SF. They do infantry first though.

Most women will carry MGs if they wanna be in it. Smallest usually gets the biggest gun./

That’s not light infantry. Light infantry don’t use strykers or Bradleys, they use their legs. Cav scouts are Cav scouts, infantry are infantry.

how is that unfair for officers?

Older officers. Not younger ones.

The ACFT is harder for females in general, with leg tucks being a challenge for both genders.

I forget light inf is not like light cav

Hell to the fuck, NO! I have no problem with women serving in the Military, but my experiences with them in Combat support were...sobering to say the least. I've outlined those incidents in threads on SB and I can rehash them here as needed. But this is a bad idea thats going to get good men killed, or both.

I have heard the stories from you, and I still keep my thought that if they have the mentality and the physical shape needed they should be allowee

Understand, I want to give them a fair shot, but I'm not hopeful. I went in expecting what I saw in SCI-FI and GI Jane. What I got were a bunch of entitled princesses who shirked their duty, routinely caused problems, failed basic physical fitness tests and a Chain of Command that continuously swept that shit under the rug. Don't get me wrong there were a lot of men who fell into that category too, but there wasn't anything stopping us from dealing with them and we often did. Maybe if we had been allowed to treat them to the same standard as the men I wouldn't be so jaded on the subject, but I don't see this as changing until people die.

Men who fucked up and couldn't or wouldn't do the job? Easy to deal with. But women? Nope. So understand that my experiences have left me very fucking biter on the subject. And I am not going to change my mind on it.

Isn't this kinda dangerous? Especially given the physical disparities?

Wouldn't this be as bad as putting a woman on a sub? I knew we had a serious manpower issue due to how out of shape the average American is..but really?

You're describing the kind of soldier that summary executions on the battlefield used to be invented specifically to discourage...Damn

Summary executions are not remotely necessary. Just chapter them out of the service, or if in a critical MOS, move them to the rear.

Naw that wasn't an endorsement of age of sail level brutality in military discipline. So much as lamenting that the goofiness you just described could be spun to vindicate it.

Like you said dishonorable discharges or transfers are enough. It's just concerning some of those women will command during a crisis.

You know if the US military really wanted to help fix the fitness problem that plagues their potential pool of recruits you'd think they'd push hard to kill the subsidies on corn at least as related to high fructose corn syrup. Mind you good luck getting that made into law

Dear God yes.

That shit isn't just killing people but it's destroying the soil health of every breadbasket country out there.

I have yet to have that same experience though it could be that I have good battle buddies and my MOS is really good at keeping people doing the right thing

The farm bills and the resulting subsidies are one of the few times that the more rural/agricultural states having so many votes in the Senate is a bad thing

The Military is also addressing how they do Physical training. It used to be Run, run, run for 5 days a week with some added pushups, situps and maybe pullups. Too much running destroys a soldier and I routinely had to send soldiers to sickcall because they were just broken.

Thankfully the Army seems to finally be addressing that.
