The elites and deep state spent so much time building their little club of the new rulers of America, the "We the Government" new oligarchy, that they just plain forgot that you need more than just that to run a country.

Time and time again people on the ground and lower level Army and CIA spooks told them this evacuation wasn't gonna work, that it was gonna be a disaster. Completely ignored, just powered through. And now it failed, and they are trying to salvage it and STILL they won't pay attention to what the grunts are saying.

I think the seemingly overnight collapse of an American client regime that nearly 2,500 Americans (and another 1,000 or so allies, not including the Afghans themselves) have died to prop up over 20 years and (potentially) 5,000+ American & other foreign hostages, who almost certainly will have friends & family asking questions about their fate back home, being stranded in hostile territory surrounded by even more hostile regimes (Iran, Pakistan, China, and to a lesser extent the 'stans who are subject to Russia's whims) probably overshadows Benghazi in scale.

My guess is that these stragglers probably actually bought that initial 90-day estimate for the Afghan government's survival which the US gov't and IC were touting and thought they had time to settle whatever affairs they might still have had in A-stan. Then got blindsided as hard as anybody else back home when the ANDSF started to completely evaporate and that estimate dropped to 30 days, then 3 days (literally the day before Kabul fell).

One only needs to take a look at how long the Iraqis lasted against ISIS in Mosul to understand how long the Afghans would last under the Talibs.

My question is why were we there at all? Thank Wilsonianism for that. Afganistan thanks to geopolitical politics was doomed from the start as long as Pakistan continued to support the Taliban and we had no legitimate way of stopping the issue.

After 9/11 we were pretty much destined to invade Afghanistan due to their connections and rampant funding of Bin Laden and instead of just killing those in charge from the air to make our point and letting the people of that country decide the future they wanted for themselves on their own we took it upon ourselves to continue the failed policy of nation building and forcing democracy down a third world countries throat.
