The War in Afghanistan

And for that matter, exactly how many of them (afghans) we want to get...

I would be completely okay with it if we were getting women and children like we claimed, but that one photo only proves to me we are not. Likewise, I could be convinced to grant safe haven to many former members of ANSDF, especially the Commandos and the like; they fought hard and were generally good men. We don't need much of the Officer Corps, which was very corrupt generally, and I sure as shit don't want any of them who engaged in child rape.

Oh, he's right about the concern being valid because it's completely dependent on the U.S. and would fall apart rather quickly if we stopped funding you:

So maybe Israel can survive without the United States, significantly reduce its standard of living, withdraw into itself. Maybe. What is abundantly clear is that it would be a far less secure and far poorer existence, with severe isolation and a lifestyle fundamentally different from that which most Israelis have become accustomed to.
Significant changes are underway in American society that do not bode well for the future of the bilateral relationship, inter alia, the rise of population groups that are less identified with Israel (Hispanics, those with no religious identification, the young) and the dwindling numbers of the secular Jewish population, Israel's traditional base of support. It is high time that our leaders finally adopt a considered and responsible approach towards the United States, adapt our policies to those of the United States to the extent possible, narrow and minimize those disagreements that are truly unavoidable, and act in a serious and cautious manner towards our great ally. It is a matter of existential importance.

If that's your actual concern then why are you not criticizing Israel for engaging in the Belt and Road or, since the 1990s, selling American military hardware to China? I see no reason to be concerned about China sticking it's dick into the Middle East just like all other Empires before it; we're energy independent here and really have no reason to be involved in the affairs of that region. We've spent enough blood and treasure, it's time for us to fuck off back home.
ROFL sure, random opinion piece is gospel.

In any case you're derailing.

It's actually from the Belfer Center and was also ran in Haaretz. As for the topic, you and the other user was discussing the ramifications of what the Afghanistan withdraw can mean in context for Israel as well as what shape the region will look like in the way of this, in which you stated your concern about increased Chinese influence. If this is a derail, then so too was all of that talk.

That may be true...

However, it's often easier to be objective from the outside. I'm not saying that's the case here as I know neither party

Just that it's VERY easy to be blinkered by the trees when you're right next to them.

It's just Humvees and MRAP's and ScanEagles and American helicopters that require spare parts to keep working. And loads of small arms. The night vision goggles, potentially upwards of sixteen thousand of them, could be quite problematic but only for any ensuing conflict the Taliban might be engaged in. Not like new tech falling into the hands of China or some such.

That we know of. Do you really trust that we're being told the whole truth here, after how much we've already been lied to?

Taliban captured US facial recognition and eye-scan database, reports say

A key database of the biometric information of Afghan allies who assisted U.S. and coalition forces may now be in the hands of Taliban militants who are seeking revenge.

On Tuesday, the Intercept reported, based on the accounts of a Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) official and three former U.S. military personnel, that Taliban fighters obtained U.S. Handheld Interagency Identity Detection Equipment (HIIDE) systems during their sweeping offensive throughout Afghanistan last week.

“We processed thousands of locals a day, had to ID, sweep for suicide vests, weapons, intel gathering, etc.” a U.S. military contractor told the Intercept. “[HIIDE] was used as a biometric ID tool to help ID locals working for the coalition.”

HIIDE devices contain such identifying information as iris scans, fingerprints and biographical information, and are linked to large centralized databases.

The potential compromise of key biometric data of Afghan allies who have helped U.S. forces raises serious concerns as Taliban fighters have been seeking reprisals against those who assisted their enemies throughout the 20-year Afghan conflict.

Taliban fighters have already set up checkpoints around the Kabul airport, where U.S. troops are working to evacuate both Americans and Afghans.

It is unclear how much biometric data the Taliban may be compromised.

An Army Special Operations veteran told the Intercept it’s possible that the Taliban doesn’t have tools necessary to access the HIIDE systems, but shared concerns that the Pakistan government would ultimately assist them in breaking into the database would assist with this.

“The Taliban doesn’t have the gear to use the data but the ISI do,” the former Special Operations official said, referring to Pakistan’s spy agency, Inter-Services Intelligence. The ISI has been known to work closely with the Taliban.

On Monday, the human rights nonprofit Human Rights First tweeted, “We understand that the Taliban is now likely to have access to various biometric databases and equipment in Afghanistan.”

Human Rights First also published a guide with ways to help people evade biometric scanning technology.

The guide advises keeping one’s head down and wearing special effects makeup or doing other things to alter the appearances of one’s mouth, nose, eyes, jawline, and cheekbones below the eyes to beat facial recognition systems. The guide also advises ways to make fake fingerprints and even cutting one’s fingertips to trick fingerprint scanners. The guide also advises wearing colored contact lenses and even using hallucinogenic pharmaceuticals like Tropicamide to dilate one’s pupils to trick iris scanners.

Welton Chang, chief technology officer for Human Rights First, told the Intercept, “I don’t think anyone ever thought about data privacy or what to do in the event the [HIIDE] system fell into the wrong hands.”

“Moving forward, the U.S. military and diplomatic apparatus should think carefully about whether to deploy these systems again in situations as tenuous as Afghanistan,” Chang added.

That's a death sentence for everyone in that database. No one thought to destroy that information huh?

Reminds me of the Erich Vermeeren de Saventhem defection in WWII, when the anti-Nazi agent for the German Abwehr defected to British Authorities giving them a list of anti-Nazi and anti-Commie German Catholics. That list was shared with the USSR and ALL of those people and their families were liquidated by Soviet Secret Police.

Wtf? That sure sounds like a Neocon thing to say Candace.

Also, that facial rec stuff requires access through internet iirc as well as a login.
The system is useless unless they have login info and etc.

Also, it is required that if leaving vehicles or such any SI is destroyed

Regarding military equipment, what else would there be that the US would've given Afghanistan that would've been covert and not something the Chinese or Russians wouldn't have access to already via their other surrogates?

Nothing.

Candance Owens is about as dumb a cunt as they come. There are very, very--VERY few black people who respect her. No matter their politics. As far as they're concerned, she just likes white dick.

As for HIIDE...well, we did have the SolarWinds hack. I don't think we know how deep that went, so Russian criminals have it. I don't think they'd hesitate to sell it to the Taliban for a quick buck. In fact, I bet they're already lining up to do so. The SI may not need to raise a finger.

SI stands for Sensative information, usually Radios, etc are part of that.
I don't know about that, but again it wouldn't really matter if they don't have access to the network. The stuff the hackers stole is not the most recent and things could have been added since then

Excuse me go fuck yourself don’t insult our soldiers like that the war is over. NATO coalition lost British troops wanting to go play around in Kabul pretending to be super heroes is childish. Especially since it was us Americans who did all the heavy lifting in Afghanistan, if Britain want to invade and reoccupy Afghanistan wait until the Americans and everyone else pulls out so you don’t drag everyone from America to Europe ack in. Now that the war is over it’s time for diplomacy and pulling out. Make it known to the Taliban that there will be retaliation if they kill Americans that are trying to evacuate, they seem to be keeping their word and following the agreement so that’s good for us we pull out and let the Taliban make their Emirate, and they don’t host any more foreign terrorists. World ignores them except for the occasional international aid, and they ignore the world. Not a bad deal Trump would have had, shame Biden screwed up the evacuation and pull out.

The Taliban have made a deal to allow safe passage if the Americans don't go out from the airport. The British are hurting that

Frankly, as an American, I have no problem with the British Paras doing what they are doing to get their people.

Apparently, Biden left all our allies hanging with the timing of this. It's a freeking mess of our President's making.

I feel for all the soldiers on that base that are told to just stand there with their dicks in their hands, watching another military work.
