The War in Afghanistan

It doesn't mean being in MANPAD range for hours. We have aircraft capable of this.
Just not as easily

Yes it does, because how exactly are those aircraft supposed to fly to Kabul? Via all of Afghanistan, while you've already established they are flying low and thus in the engagement zone. Even better, for the Taliban; which nation's airspace is the USAF coming from? Russia? China? Iran? Pakistan? I'm sure they won't given the Taliban a warning at all, no, not even a little bit.....

You can take it a step further-the Taliban have pledged to end the Opium trade from Afghanistan, which supplies about 60-80% of global production currently depending on the source you use. Prior to 9/11, they actually had done this, so I have confidence in their abilities and willingness in this matter. As a result:

This shitpost is dedicated to the brave Mujahidin of Afghanistan

They've done more to end the Opioid Crisis with this one step than the U.S. Government ever has.
As silver linings go this is pretty good. I would dearly love to see American heroin prices increase a hundred-fold. A whole lot more Americans have died after being tricked into addiction by Sackler drug pushers than have died in the sights of a Taliban soldier. Probably more of our soldiers have died thus, than in combat.

I pray for the young Afghans who grew up under occupation and didn't really understand what was going on. Who took us at our word, or were bullied into believing that the Americans would be there forever so they had to make peace with us. We led them down the primrose path when we tried to establish a Vichy regime.

Easy to resupply...for now.

Supplies come in on the planes that will leave with people.

Just make sure any military supplies look like food and water packs.

Right now yeah, we were discussing a hypothetical where the U.S. uses B-52s to destroy the captured American equipment right now so the Taliban can't have it. I responded by pointing out the Taliban can shut down the airport and take the entire American force hostage if the U.S. attempted such a move.

More Americans die every year of opioid addiction (for the last several years) than died in the entire Vietnam War. Let that sink in, everyone....

One thing I've been doing is looking at Snap Maps in Afghanistan; actually have been able to talk to a few Afghans via adding them on there. There's a lot of memes-the young men of Kabul are able to shitpost with the best of us lol-but one in particular from today stands out. It was a 20 something Afghan man walking down a street in Kabul, happily stating this is the first time in his entire life that he has been able to walk down this street without seeing armed guards on it.

They've earned their peace, and I hope this whole disaster for them can now finally be put behind them.

Gotcha.

Yeah, that airport is hosed in an hour...maybe. Depends on how much mortar fire the Taliban wants to use before they bumb rush it. Not much cover on a tarmac.

Theres no way we hold it if the Taliban really wants it. Not without uping the civilian kill count drastically.

To further drive the point home, they don't even need mortars; latest reports from Kabul are that the Taliban are helping control the security situation on the civilian side of the airport. They're literally already on the inside of the airport and could shut it down with small arms fire lol.

How I wish that could be true.

I doubt it will happen though. Too many people likely want to return their 'glory days'. That usually means blood and suffering.

There's nobody left; Dostum and Atta have surrendered, Khan has fled to Iran. We all know what's happened to the formal structure of GIRoA lol. Only people left are Massoud Jr in the Panjshir and some self-reporting that what is left of the ANSDF Commando Corps are going to ground to keep fighting. Neither will last long; Massour is surrounded in central Afghanistan near Kabul with no airports or land connections for outside support while his fiefdom has just 173,000 people. The Commandos are damn good soldiers, but they were-and obviously more so now-always too few to do anything in the long run.

Massoud is dead or in exile within a month while the Commandos will just be a temporary nuisance. The Taliban have pretty much brought the never ending war that started in 1979 to a close in the space of a single campaign season.

If the Taliban do an all out attack, which they won't because they WILL lose that situation, it would be asking for the US to use the air support provided to them.

Congratulations Biden you played yourself. Should've stuck to Drumpf's arrangement bitch.
Do they even have access to the systems themselves? As in the login info for the database

What even are the chances of the Taliban shooting first in any engagement with US forces? At this point I can't see how renewed hostilities would benefit literally anyone but the most frothing-at-the-mouth warmongers in DC. They might be barbaric but if they were stupid they never could've come this far, Baradar & company must know they've already won (except apparently for that one pocket in the Panjshir valley) and like Biden between January and May, all they have to do to seal the deal is sit & do nothing.

I’m glad we’re leaving. As much as I dislike Biden and would love to blame him for this, the greater blame lies with Bush for getting us into this mess in the first place and Obama for escalating our presence there. Obviously, Biden could be doing a better job here, but it’s honestly a problem that goes way beyond him, this mess is bipartisan and also a problem with the Pentagon and Military Industrial Complex.

If a gambling addict has been in a casino all week and has lost $100,000 of their life savings, then a family member drags them out, you don’t say that family member caused that $100,000 to be wasted.

The real mistake here is decades of insane Middle East policy that has caused thousands of American deaths, hundreds of thousands of foreign deaths, costs us trillions of dollars, and turned millions of innocent people into destitute refugees.

The USA is collapsing from within while we spend ourselves into bankruptcy and have troops dying in other countries that have never posed a threat to us. Especially as China is poised to eclipse us.

It’s too bad that Afghani people are surfing and dying, that we are responsible for it, but the best thing that we can do is to change our foreign policy so that we aren’t in this kind of situation again.

As Trump ran on, as most Americans want - America First.

I agree with almost everything here; though I blame Bill Clinton for helping to start all this to get his own scandals out of the news, the Neocons for enabling this after 9/11 and Biden and his cabal for utterly blotching this.

Yeah, Clinton deserves some blame too. Neo-cons in general do and he’s pretty close to being one. Biden, in fact, is a DC establishment man like Obama before him, and I attribute blame to all of them.

Clinton deserves blame for something even worse than the state of Afghanistan: it was Clinton polices (and potentially treasons) that helped turn China into our rival global power and we have yet to truly see the horrors that will result from that.

lets face facts.

The democrats own this.

They can blame every one they want they can make all the excuses they want but they firmly own this defeat.

You cant walk away from something like this with out taking damage.
They are going to try to blame it on Trump, which is the height of absurdities because he may be the only guy in DC with serious power for the last few decades who doesn’t deserve any blame here, but the left are just going to start up their “Orange Man Bad” narratives and their base will eat it up like they do for all of the propaganda put in front of them.

Look at our sister sites, they are already pointing fingers at Trump.

I am, however, feeling a little bit hopeful that more moderate and open minded Americans might put the blame on Biden, his administration, and the countless shills taking up for him.

if it's of any condolances I think I saw an artlce on CNN where they were questioning his competence. So it's possible even his close allies are turning on him. The bad thing about that is he's not even been president for a year. how bad are things going to be by the end of next year?

All I can say is, 25th Amendment.

If the rumors are true, Kamala Harris is already asking about it, draw your own conclusions.
