Took Latin in high school, as well as in my sophomore and junior years at university.

Unfortunately, I’m too rusty to make out the lyrics (beyond already knowing the broad strokes from the English version), as I only halfway recognized certain words and inflections at best. Certainly, it’s more “poetic” and “curly-sounding” than in English, which is more “choppy” and has more of a grab-bag of vaguely Germanic and Latinate sounds in quick succession that’d probably confuse an ancient Roman listener. Still, an interesting listen, so thanks for the tip-off.

To my ear the singer sounds Italian. I've heard that Italians tend to speak Latin with a strong Italian accent, which is what ecclesial Latin uses. However, eccledial Latin comes from the vulgate, the lower class form, and so does not represent anything close to the original.

Yeah, I learned Classical Latin, so certainly not Ecclesiastical. Or even the kind of Latin the average Roman spoke in their daily lives, really, per stratification of the various social classes throughout Roman history.
