How bad is this for the Dems?

Not particularly bad. In general it's outrageously hypocritical, but if outrageous hypocrisy bothered voters than most current lawmakers would have been thrown out of office years ago.

If you mean the pro tempore thing, It doesn't do much, the position itself isn't very powerful so the dems losing it doesn't hurt them very much.

I'd suggest reading Haidt's "The Righteous Mind."

He researches this. If he's not the one who came up with the theory himself, he did a lot of research to prove it.

Essentially both the left and right think they are righteous, but the right is more spread out amongst the different points, whereas the left is mostly focussed on one or two.

In other words, morality for the right is more well rounded.

This idea has one huge flaw.

It assumes that each politician is acting morally and not selfishly... I find that extremely naive.

The stupidity of the TX Dems continues to amaze me here in my beloved home state of TX.
If you have any familiarity with the history of the Texas Democratic party you'll stop being amazed by anything. Texas Dems were the entrenched political class from the day Texas was a state thanks to carpetbagging slavers moving into east Texas after it was annexed by the US. Remember, joining the Confederacy was a minority position in the population that even the governor opposed and only institutional capture by Dixie-born transplants allowed the pro-secession faction to control the state government. After the military occupation ended Democrats continued to own the state's government until the Reagan Revolution (and a few decades of atrocious Democratic governance) gave the Republicans a way into a tightly controlled political environment.

Texas democrats are a bunch of entitled twats that are still cranky that the filthy peasants from outside of the Triangle managed to wrest control of the government from them. They don't know how to compete outside of the artificial environments of machine politics and its telling that their power fell alongside the decline of urban political machines after WWII.

Sam Houston is an amazing man.
The state was voting red way before Reagan in the presidential elections

The stupid WOKE TX Dems seem to have forgotten that their political party used similar sinister methods of disenfranchising people back in the day.

@f1onagher Are you from TX ?
