Problem is… I doubt it’d be implemented correctly, let alone seriously considered by control freaks in Congress who always distort the legislation their constituents want passed. In any case, it’d probably be good if everyday people stopped projecting their own beliefs and desires onto the people who are actually writing the laws and deciding how they’re enforced.

Sure, whatever. Mentally ill being defined lawfully, and then used to prevent people from having guns, means that you, me, and everyone else will be defined lawfully to be mentally ill so that we can't have guns.

No. Not as broad as that. Only people who say they are suicidal, or were institutionalized against their will can't. If we broaden it to "people considered mentally ill" we're all fucked.

While I think @Abhorsen could’ve explained it better, the point is that politicians will use “mental illness” as an excuse to confiscate guns from not only their political opponents, but also clinically diagnosed people (ex: those with mild depression) who really aren’t a danger to themselves or others.
Ultimately, it’s the politicians who decide who gets to have guns and who doesn’t. Not you, not me, nor anyone on The Sietch.
So, even if you feel that trans people shouldn’t own guns, the people who actually write the laws will expand that to encompass lots of other people who you believe should have them. Because frankly, they don’t care what you think and will hijack your proposed legislation for their own ends — hence why Abhorsen vociferously refuses to give another inch, when they’ll inevitably take the mile (assuming I read him correctly).

If it was up to me, personally, I would not allow trans people to have guns.
If your concern is that a law preventing that would be abused and eventually used to stop others from having guns? I get that. I can agree with that.
I would support a law explicitly written banning trans from having guns though. If it's written in a way that can't be expanded.
I support LGBs having guns. Not Ts. Though maybe thay doesn't necessarily mean i support a law preventing it, because I don't want that law to be abused.
I need to correct myself, it's not suicidal, it's being adjudicated as mentally incompetent or involuntarily institutionalized.

See, I don't even support this. Both because yes, even that can be abused (if it's found to be consitutional, other states will use that logic), and also because it's simply wrong.
A person simply being insane doesn't mean that they shouldn't have gun rights, especially with the expansion of what insanity means. No, it should only be the people who can't live in public who should be banned. And then, why have the law? If they can't live in public, they should be kept institutionalized or judged mentally incompetent, living under care. I think it should just those who are currently under a mental incompetence order or currently institutionalized.

Everyone should have the right to protect themselves and the ability to buy or obtain any tool they need or feel like using in that manner. people don’t commit crimes because of mental illness they commit crimes because of a lack of self control or moral deficiencies. By which I mean two people with the same mental illness can act and behave completely differently because one has better self control and holds themselves to a higher moral standard just as a normal person can perform horrible acts just because they got to angry or hate filled at one point so to can someone with any mental illness. saying horrible things are done because of mental illness is a salve for people to think well I’m not like that so I could never do that when every human has a monster waiting to come out.Also I absolutely despise any kind of precrime law just because you have the potential to do something doesn’t mean you will you should only be judged legally on actual actions.
