Secret Diary: Denise Fontela (II)
November 22nd, 1979
Somewhere in the Kingdom of Thailand

It was 6:26 AM in the morning and I walked out of my bedroom naked and barefoot through the sound-proof underground tunnel of the secret hideout. I was going to thoroughly examine the consigent myself personally.

Closing the door behind me, I walked inside the large underground secret lab, where the consigent was floating in the deep warm water of the pool; jumping into the pool, I swam toward the naked consigent and noticed she looked bloated and horrible due to her skin being all greenish and gray.

I looked closer at the consigent, who was laying face down and decided to swim toward the steps of the pool while I used a special device to place the consigent in a standing position.

Then I used a small incision scaple knife to cut open the consigent's back, then used my left hand to apply some mercury special lathering gently and I removed the entire latex human skin off of the consigent from head to toe, revealing her completely skinless.

I picked up the mangled fake latex human skin and walked across the hall by placing it into the incinerator watching it burn. Getting back inside the underground secret lab, I injected the skinless consigent with five concoctions and placed her face down into swimming pool and watched as all of the purges of gases aggressively purged out of her nose and mouth thoroughly which took hours to finish, eventually shrinking the naked skinless body of the consigent to normal size of 79 pounds. Next, I placed the naked skinless consigent on a super soft-surface bed: spread her legs wide open and used clear-like gel goo lathering all over her entire skinless body from head to toe and thoroughly massaged her hands, fingers, arms, entire backside, buttocks, legs, feet, breasts, stomach and vagina.

The swimming pool was thoroughly cleaned via secret button I had pressed while I was massaging and caressing the consigent. Afterwards, I carried the naked skinless consigent and placed her back inside the swimming pool: the consigent was lying on her back as I sealed the lid, turned on the gold lights of the swimming pool and walked over to the outer room of the lab to making more latex mask skin suits with the consigent's full resemblance.

November 25th, 1979: RGA target to defeat incumbent AR Governor Bill Clinton (D) in 1980 AR Gubernatorial elections

Facing strong backlash from Arkansans due to the obvious disastrous political appointments he made during his 1st term in office, AR Governor Bill Clinton (D) appears to be in for one of the most difficult political campaigns of his young political career.

Clinton proposed several bills regarding education reform in the Natural State, which was seen as a major priority for his administration. But the Dem-controlled AR General Assembly passed a bill requiring new teachers to take taking competency tests before being certified, making AR one of the last states adopting this main requirement. Another bill called for mandatory testing of students & the third proposal was seen as very controversial: consolidating its school districts & doing away with some rural school districts, which angered many Arkansans.

In what many political analysts viewed as a major failure, Clinton was forced to withdraw the legislation from being considered. Majority of the state lawmakers, who represented areas with small school districts & were staunchly opposed to the consolidation of school districts.

Having appointed a young, idealistic staff managing the governor's office, these appointments soon became a huge political disaster as the inexperienced staff offended many interest groups & made political enemies for the "Boy Governor".

Another disastrous political mistake was a very deeply despised unpopular tax on vehicle registration: the tax wasn't a large one but it was roundly criticized. In addition, a local newspaper was developed in response to the controversy & was focused on uncovering waste & inefficiency in state government, further embarrassing the Clinton administration.

With double-digit leads in the polls for the 1980 Democratic Party presidential nomination, Vice President Jimmy Carter gained the endorsement from two prominent politicians in the Sunshine State: FL Governor Bob Graham (D) & United States Senator Lawton Chiles (D-FL). Both Graham & Chiles value Carter's experience & leadership capabilities during his tenure as VP; zero-based budgeting priorities in getting the Federal Budget balanced; leading the successful Camp David Accords & Peace Treaty with Egypt & Israel coordinating with President Jerry Brown & US Secretary of State Walter Mondale.

Carter leads by 37 percentage points in the FL primary according to some polling surveys.

November 30th, 1979: Mondale to resign as US Secretary of State once successor is confirmed by the US Senate
Following weeks & months of speculation, US Secretary of State Walter Mondale announced he plans on stepping down once the Dem-controlled United States Senate confirms his successor following a swift confirmation process in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Some foreign policy experts think it might've had something do with the Brown administration's disastrous handling of the Iranian Hostage Crisis, where 62+ American diplomats & the US Embassy personnel employees have been held hostage since November 4th. During a joint press conference in the East Room of the White House, President Brown thanked Mondale for his years of serving the administration at the State Department including highlighting several of Mondale's diplomatic efforts in several foreign ventures, etc., Brown also asked Deputy Secretary of State Cyrus Vance to come to the podium to join him & Mondale by announcing he plans on nominating Vance to succeed Mondale at the State Department once the Senate confirms him, hoping for a swift confirmation. As for Mondale, there's growing speculation that he might be considered as a future VP contender on the Democratic side, preferably Vice President Carter, whom many view as the likely Democratic Party presidential nominee next year.

December 6th, 1979: Senate Foreign Relations Committee confirmation hearings of US Deputy Secretary of State Cyrus Vance smooth sailing; pressure on the Senate to confirm him as next US Secretary of State
Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Frank Church (D-ID) led the confirmation hearings for US Deputy Secretary of State Cyrus Vance before the committee on national television: where majority of the questions from the committee members was about the Iranian Hostage Crisis including other foreign hot-spots such as Panama, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Cuba, etc.,

December 11th, 1979: Inside Scoop: President Brown secretly instructing Pentagon to evaluate military options
According to the Washington Post, citing anonymous sources within the US Defense Department, revealing that President Jerry Brown has secretly given the go-ahead for the Pentagon to begin evaluating specific military options against the Islamic-controlled government of Iran, in an attempt to resolving the ongoing Hostage Crisis. Both risky maneuvers in freeing the hostages are reportedly according to the Washington Post report, under strong consideration, as well as the broad operation in targeting the Islamic regime of Islamic leader Ayatollah Khomeini. However, what's unclear is how would look like since not everyone inside the Iranian military has come out in supporting the Islamic dictatorship.

Major General Chun Doo-hwan announcing military coup on national television.

Less than two months following the shocking assassination of then-Korean President Park Chung-hee on October 26th, Major General Chun Doo-hwan, who had been serving as Commander of the Defence Security Command, aggressively launched the military coup d'etat by ordering the arrest of Major General Jeong Byeong-ju (who was serving as the Commander of the Army Special Warfare Command) & Major General Jang Tae-wan (Commander of the Army Capital Security Command), both of whom were arrested by the rebel troops, who had consisted of the 30th & 33rd Capital Security Group, both of which are strongly loyal to Chun.

Not too long afterwards, the 29th Regiment of the 9th Division including the 1st Special Forces Brigade & 3rd Special Forces Brigade launched a full-scale invasion into downtown Seoul which included some gunfights breaking out in the capital city.

By December 13th, the Korean Ministry of Defense Headquarters & Republic of Korea Army Headquarters were both captured & occupied under Chun's control effectively taking control of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces. Chun officially became the de-facto leader of the Korean government which made President Choi basically irrelevant.

December 13th, 1979: Argentine President Isabel Peron makes State Visit to the Soviet Union
*Controversial State Visit to Moscow likely ruffling feathers.
*Speculation swirling around possibility of Soviet-made ballistic missiles being shipped to Argentina as Civil War with Chile turns into stalemate.
*More developments coming.

In what many viewed as one of the controversial State Visits by any Head of State, Argentine President Isabel Peron continued flexing her independent foreign policy by making a grand red carpet State Visit to the Soviet Union, where she held a face-to-face bilateral meeting with Soviet President Lenoid Brezhnev at the Kremlin. They also held a joint press conference discussing the iron-clad Argentine-Soviet alliance; economic investments; military weapons & arms shipments; military & economic assistance. The 3-day visit comes as Peron is facing growing international backlash for the Argentinian High Forces Command's deadly & sinister military operations against Chile's sovereignty by taking around 5,000 land & nearly half of the lower part of Southern Chile.

Mrs. Peron is expected to return to Argentina sometime around December 16th according to the Casa Rosada.

ABC NEWS BULLETIN SPECIAL REPORT: SOVIET UNION INVADES AFGHANISTAN

The events that led to the disastrous events in Afghanistan go out like this:

First, US President Jerry Brown was facing difficulties expediting Senate approval of the SALT II Treaty. For more than four months, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee considered testimony on its provisions, hearing both those who blasted the treaty (which was signed by Brown & Brezhnev in Vienna on July 18th) for placing too many severe limits on American strength & those who believe it wasn't strict enough on limiting armament.

Finally, the committee approved the treaty in 9-6 vote on November 9th, 1979. A vote by the full Senate was deferred to 1980, giving the Brown administration more time in trying to garnering enough support of ensuring the necessary two-thirds majority.

Suddenly, the controversial decision of the Soviets pretty much all but killed any chance of having full ratification of SALT II Treaty.

On Christmas Day: December 25th, 1979 the Soviet Union launched an invasion of Afghanistan with about 85,000+ troops. Afhgan President Hafizullah Amin was overthrown & executed. Amin was replaced by Babrak Karmal as the country's new President, who was staunchly pro-Soviet & seen by foreign policy analysts as a pro-Soviet puppet leader. The Soviet Union justified its controversial invasion by claiming that the US had been financing guerilla forces attempting to overthrow the Afghan government. Amin was described as an agent of "United States imperalism."

January 2nd, 1980: President Brown asks US Semate to defer further consolidation of the SALT II Treaty indefinitely

On January 2nd, 1980, President Jerry Brown announced that he was asking the United States Senate to defer further consolidation of the SALT II Treaty indefinitely in light of the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan on December 25th. Two days later on January 4th, President Brown addressed the American people on national TV, announcing that in retaliation for the Soviet action he was embargoing the shipment of 17 million metric tons of grain that the Soviet Union had purchased in the US. He also suspended the selling of high technology equipment to the Soviet Union & curtailed Soviet fishing in American waters.

BREAKING: President Brown announcing he will lead a boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow

During an exclusive interview with NBC's Meet the Press at their Washington, DC Studios on the morning of January 8th, President Jerry Brown confirmed he will lead a full-scale boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, which will be held later this Summer. Later, when the Soviet Union still refused to withdraw its military troops from Afghanistan, about 57 other nations followed the lead of the US in announcing their respective plans of boycotting the sports event set for this Summer. In response, the Soviet Union called Brown's measures "a revival of the Cold War."

The speech was initially planned for January 25th & now rescheduled to May 17th. Sources reporting President Brown plans to go on vacation in Honolulu, HI. The prompt rescheduling of the 1980 State of the Union Address quickly drew harsh criticism from GOP lawmakers. Senate Minority Whip Bob Dole (R-KS) said Brown's attitude was "very disrespectful to lawmakers." President Brown dismissed the critiques & said it was simply "communication problems" between his team & O'Neill's staff. "On behalf of my team, I apologize." Brown added: "Republican politicians continually trying to play political theater here."

Chapter XIII: More Humiliation of the deposed Shah in Exile

December 15th, 1979: Deposed Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi arrives in Panama

Desperately trying to appease Iran, the Brown administration persuaded the Shah to leave Mexico on December 13th via back-channels. According to anonymous sources, President Jerry Brown pressured Panamanian President General Omar Torrijos to give refuge to the Shah, who was still suffering from an undisclosed illness.

Torrijos, according to inside sources, busted out laughing during his phone call with Brown reportedly saying "This is quite odd. Considering you're so desperate to getting these hostages released out of my country. My demands still stand: I want full Panamanian control of the Panama Canal 100 percent."

Brown, still being politically isolated following the lack of a response to the US Embassy Compound in Pamama City being violently rampaged which resulted in the deaths of several Embassy personnel employees, etc., during the Summer-Fall of 1979, threatened economic sanctions to cripple Panama with political consequences to taking down Torrijos' administration if he didn't have the Shah flying to Panama. Realizing the consequences, Torrijos begrudgingly agreed to Brown's demands.

Upon arriving in Isla Contadora during the evening HRS of December 15th, the deposed Shah of Iran didn't get the red carpet welcoming treatment from Torrijos, who gleefully used insults & potshots.

Making no secret of his obvious dislike & hatred of the Shah, Torrijos taunted him saying "it must be hard to fall off the Peacock Throne into Contadora," & twisted the insult knife even further by calling him "chupon." After meeting the Shah, Torrijos called him "one of the saddest men he had ever met."

From then on, Torrijos kept the deposed Shah as a virtual prisoner at the Paitilla Medical Center, where some of the Shah's close US doctors & close friends described the hospital as very awful & inadequate. Escalating his deep seated hatred of the Shah, Torrijos only allowed Panamanian doctors to treating the Shah's cancer with the main goal of hastening his demise.

He even further added more to the Shah's humiliation & misery by having his own Chief Bodyguard, who was a very staunchly militant Marxist sociology professor, who took great pleasure of aggressively giving the deposed Shah "The Lecture" on how he deserved to be ousted from power because he was a tool of American imperialism. Torrijos also charged the Shah $21,000 monthly rent & made him pay for his own meals including all of the wages of the 200 National Guardsmen assigned to providing him security. It was one of the degrading & humiliating experiences for an exiled deposed Head of State.

BREAKING: PRESIDENT & FIRST LADY BROWN MAKING SURPRISE VISIT TO CHILE
*Secrecy was needed to avoid detection from Argentinian Intelligence Service's wiretapping or tracing methods.
*Heavy security increased in Santiago.
*Bilateral meetings held inside La Moneda Palace.

In one of the most shocking & surprise foreign trips, President Jerry Brown & his wife, First Lady Linda Ronstadt Brown boarded Air Force One & arrived at the Pinochet International Airport (the airport was renamed in honor of the late Chilean President back in September). Following greeting dignitaries, President & First Lady Brown were driven in a heavily guarded motorcade through the streets of Santiago, until they arrived at La Moneda Palace (Government Office) in downtown Santiago where the Brown's were greeted by Chilean President Major General Gerald Enriquez.

Chilean First Lady Yvonne Enriquez is still in the middle of her 13+ months long international goodwill tour.

While Mrs. Brown attended a special musical choir concert from young Chilean schoolchildren, Presidents Brown & Enriquez got to business: discussing the ongoing developments of the Civil War with Argentina; necessity of military weapons, armaments; the international support around the world backing Chile's defense of their sovereignty & military assistance, etc.,

December 27th, 1979: Can Dems avoid an electoral wipeout in 1980 ?
With outgoing President Brown announcing he won't be seeking reelection in 1980 weeks before the 1978 Midterm elections, the Dems have been grasping at political straws about the possibility of an electoral wipeout next Fall.

Vice President Jimmy Carter, who still is the early front-runner for the Democratic Party presidential nomination, appears to be leading in the polling surveys in the primaries against fellow Dems: United States Senators Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) & Lloyd Bentsen (D-TX) & LA Governor Edwin Edwards (D). However, there's some political analysts who think Carter could get a potential surprise in the primaries & there's speculation swirling around the battle for the nomination being dragged out to the DNC Convention.

Due to the deep backlash against President Brown, Dems will be hard pressed to maintaining their majorities in the US House of Representatives & United States Senate, where the GOP will be targeting 12+ US Senate seats. Plus, the Dems who are holding majority of US State & Territory Governorships, will be facing strong GOP challenges in some of the following places: AR, MO, ND including some others.

January 13th, 1980: President Brown imposing additional economic sanctions on Iran; sanctioning Soviets
With no breakthrough in diplomatic efforts with the desired result of getting 57+ American hostages released from Iran, who were captured in early November, led President Jerry Brown to imposing additional economic sanctions against the Iranian Islamic regime. US Treasury Secretary G. William Miller was directed to cutting off any Iranian access to capital markets. In the meantime, the President renewed threats made by US Secretary of State Cyrus Vance to using American military force against the Iranian government if necessary. On January 13th, the President also issued additional economic sanctions on the Soviet Union, terminating some grain deliveries to the Soviet Union which had been approved by the Ford & Rockefeller administrations. "Now I am strongly aware that this will also effect civilians, who are suffering under the Soviet regime, but because of their renewed aggressions have made it necessary to showing American determination," the President said in a public statement.

Edwards on the campaign trail.

Just a few months earlier, many had assumed that outgoing LA Governor Edwin Edwards (D)'s announced presidential campaign would be nothing but a hopeless cause & merely intended to pushing the Democratic Party's platform into a more moderate-to-liberal leaning. But in light of the recent setbacks for the Brown administration, the Silver Fox's campaign has surprisingly gained steam. He also experienced a bump in a couple of polling surveys & there's also enthusiasm during his campaign rallies. Edwards has his campaign focused on his key issues such as government reforms: abolishing languishing national boards, commissions, agencies, increased funding for vocational technical schools & higher education. The renewed Soviet aggression in Afghanistan was proof to him that the Detente policies of the Nixon, Ford & Brown administration have outlived themselves. However, Edwards hasn't attacked Vice President Jimmy Carter personally at this point.

Vice President Carter hadn't responded to any of his main three opponents for the Democratic Party presidential nomination, but pointed out that he's far more experienced than any of his opponents. Carter also continued to point out several key successes of the Brown administration, in which he played major key roles. The incumbent VP is still expected to win the nomination barring anything crazy along the way. However, it does appear that Senators Bentsen & Kennedy including Governor Edwards will each make it quite difficult for Carter to steamroll to the nomination.

CAMPAIGN 80: CARTER CRUSHES THE COMPETITION IN IA; BUSH UPSETS REAGAN IN GOP CAUCUSES

Iowa Democratic Caucuses

Jimmy Carter: 59.6%✔
Edward Kennedy: 17%

Iowa GOP Caucuses
George HW Bush: 32%✔
Ronald Reagan: 30%
Howard Baker: 15%
John Connally: 13%

Here we go & we are OFF! Vice President Jimmy Carter wins the IA Caucuses, as he did in 1976, easily steam-rolling the competition. He won by 42 percentage points & ran up his margins in majority of the urban & suburban areas of the Hawkeye State including majority of the rural areas as well. Carter thanked his supporters & immediately flew aboard Air Force Two to the Granite State, where he also won four years ago & where the Vice President is also expected to dominate NH as well.

In the meantime over at the GOP side: the biggest surprise comes from former CIA Director George HW Bush, who surprised pollsters & experts by winning the IA Caucuses knocking off former CA Governor Ronald Reagan (R) in a come-from-behind upset victory. Garnering a fourth of the vote, but there are rumors speculating that some of the other candidates: United States Senator Bob Dole (R-KS), US Reps. John B. Anderson (R-IL) & Phil Crane (R-IL) will be dropping out following either tonight or after the NH Primary.

February 7th, 1980: Dole drops out, endorses Reagan

The first major GOP contender is officially out: United States Senator Bob Dole (R-KS), the 1976 GOP Vice Presidential nominee four years ago, officially suspended his campaign following his poor showing in the IA Caucuses from three days earlier. His quest at the GOP Presidential nomination was always seen as a longshot & lacked financial support from the very beginning. Several rank & file GOPers have united behind the Dole & Reagan campaigns. Dole told his supporters he favors Governor Reagan to be the party's standard bearer for this year & as the next President.

New Hampshire Democratic Primary

Jimmy Carter: 49%✔
Edwin Edwards: 25%
Lloyd Bentsen: 15%
Edward Kennedy: 13%

Another huge victory for Vice President Jimmy Carter: Carter had won the Granite State's Democratic Primary four years earlier, but this time, he had another smooth sailing once again as he won by double digits. While the Carter campaign is moving along full-steam ahead, the night produced a surprise second-place finisher: outgoing LA Governor Edwin Edwards (D), who garnered 25% of the vote. The 52-year-old two-term LA Governor has surprised many political observers by gaining a lot of grassroots support from many of the party's activists. However for the Bay State's Senior United States Senator, Edward Moore Kennedy, the fourth-place finish is quite embarrassing following a pathetic TV interview with Roger Mudd on CBS News.

New Hampshire GOP Primary:

Ronald Reagan: 56.73%✔
George HW Bush: 36.83%

Former CA Governor Ronald Reagan (R) rebounded from his shocking narrow loss in the IA Caucuses & crushed the competition on the GOP side in the NH Primary with a resounding landslide victory, giving Reagan more opportunities with upcoming contests in NV & SC.

Edward Kennedy: 7%

Outgoing LA Governor Edwin Edwards (D) stuns the political universe! He pulled off a major upset in the SC Primary. This was a badly needed victory for the Edwards campaign for the flamboyant & controversial Louisianan after two consecutive defeats in the primary season & underlines his status as one of the serious contenders for the Democratic Party presidential nomination. The Vice President's senior advisers had, according to insiders, already prepped him for a potential upset loss, even though the Carter campaign had hoped to pulling out a win in the Palmetto State & forcing Edwards to quit his candidacy or costing his momentum over the last few days.

South Carolina GOP Primary

Ronald Reagan: 61%✔
George HW Bush: 29%

Former CA Governor Ronald Reagan (R) thoroughly crushed former CIA Director George HW Bush in the SC GOP Primary in a landslide, further keeping his momentum toward the GOP Presidential nomination that he fell short off back in 1976 when controversy exploded over audio recordings from 1971 with then-President Richard Nixon, derailed his second campaign for the nomination, which ultimately went to then-VP Edward Brooke, who went on to lose to current President Jerry Brown.

Jimmy Carter: 25.73%
Edward Kennedy: 13.37%
Lloyd Bentsen: 12.00%

The Silver Fox is having some quite of a typical moment here: Not only did LA Governor Edwin Edwards (D) won the NV Democratic Caucuses, but he beat Vice President Jimmy Carter by double digits. Media observers described his shocking resounding victory as very impressive; Edwards, who also had strong momentum following his upset victory in the SC Primary, goes with momentum with Super Tuesday coming up.

The winning streak for former CA Governor Ronald Reagan (R) continues as he won 8 out of 10 primaries or caucuses this evening further increasing his growing delegate lead for the GOP Presidential nomination. Even though former CIA Director George HW Bush has won IA, PR, VT & MA so far, his campaign still on life support & unless he can squeak in some critical wins down the stretch, it maybe all she wrote for the Bush campaign.

BREAKING: EDWARDS BUSTS INTO CARTER'S SOUTHERN STRATEGY WITH SHOCKING WINS; KENNEDY'S CAMPAIGN SUCKER-PUNCHED & REELING WITH DEVASTATING BLOWS; BENTSEN CAMPAIGN UNDERGOING MAJOR "REASSESSMENT"

Former LA Governor Edwin Edwards (D) has busted into the Carter campaign's Southern Strategy Wall: winning AL, AR, TN & VA while the incumbent VP won his home state of GA & OK.Carter did rebound with wins in MN (Carter was endorsed by former US Secretary of State Walter Mondale) & CO. United States Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) easily won his home state of MA in a resounding landslide victory with 65% of the vote.

United States Senator Lloyd Bentsen (D-TX) told supporters that his campaign will undergo major reassessment for the next few days despite crushing the competition in his home state of TX in a blowout victory.

For the incumbent Vice President Jimmy Carter, this was NOT kind of home cooked meal that he was anticipating in the South, considering fellow Southerners Edwards & Bentsen are splitting up the anti-Carter vote. While he's still favored to win the nomination, insiders say the Vice President will have to take Edwards very seriously & they mean, very seriously before it's too late.

EYEWITNESS NEWS UPDATE:
UNITED STATES SENATOR LLOYD BENTSEN (D-TX) DROPPING OUT; NOT ENDORSING EITHER CARTER OR EDWARDS

During a press conference before group of supporters in the Driskill Hotel in Austin, TX: United States Senator Lloyd Bentsen (D-TX) confirmed he was dropping out of the 1980 Democratic Party presidential nomination campaign effective immediately. According to ABC 13 KTRK-TV Houston, Bentsen made the decision late last night following yesterday's string of primaries during Super Tuesday. Bentsen didn't endorse either Vice President Jimmy Carter or LA Governor Edwin Edwards (D), preferring to wait until the end of the primaries.

EXPLOSIVE BOMBSHELLS AGAINST UNITED STATES SENATOR EDWARD M. KENNEDY (D-MA) SURFACE

In the meantime over inside the Bay State, United States Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) faces explosive bombshell allegations which the National Informer tabloid magazine leaked out serious accusations against the Senator: accusing him of violently beating his estranged wife, Joan Kennedy (who's currently at an undisclosed secret location); having sexual orgies with young female office staffers during late night parties; performing illegal activities with underage young teenage girls. Kennedy strongly blasted the accusations as "Damned Lies and Smears!"

March 10th, 1980: David Treen inaugurated as LA's 51st Governor; first GOPer to occupy the LA Governor's Mansion since Reconstruction
F2nhf-hWYAEoDl8

An estimated 3,783+ attended the inauguration of LA Governor David Treen (R), who took office was the Pelican State's 51st Governor & the first GOPer occupying the LA Governor's Mansion since Reconstruction. Treen succeds former LA Governor Edwin Edwards (D), who was term limited from succeeding himself due to the LA State Constitution preventing a third consecutive term. Following the inauguration festivities, Edwards went to the airport to continue his campaign for the Democratic Party presidential nomination.

March 11th, 1980:

Former CIA Director George HW Bush rebounded by winning the ME GOP Caucuses with 57% of the vote, sweeping all counties; In the meantime, former CA Governor Ronald Reagan (R) easily won massive landslide victories in MI & MS with 73% & 56% respectively. In the battle for the Democratic Party presidential nomination, Vice President Jimmy Carter rebounded with huge critical wins in ME & MS; United States Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) narrowly won MI with 29%; Carter had 28% & former LA Governor Edwin Edwards (D) garnered 24%.

March 14th, 1980:

KENNEDY WINS PUERTO RICO PRIMARY, DEFEATS CARTER

Puerto Dem Primary:
Kennedy: 59%✔

A huge major victory for United States Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) as he wins the Free Associated State's primary for the Commonwealth's 40 delegates: grabbing 35 out of 40 delegates with 59% of the vote, while incumbent Vice President Jimmy Carter only garnered 5 delegates & winning just 39% of the vote. Meanwhile, former LA Governor Edwin Edwards (D) didn't contest the Commonwealth, preferring to focus his efforts on the upcoming primaries.

March 18th, 1980:

REAGAN SWEEP CONTINUES IN KEY STATES; DEMS SPLIT CONTESTS!

Reagan: 59%✔
Bush: 40%

IL GOP Primary:

NC GOP Primary:
Reagan: 57%✔

OH GOP Primary:
Reagan: 55%✔
Bush: 43%

Another sweep & another good night for The Great Communicator as key major wins in FL, OH, NC & IL aggressively bolstering his lead for the GOP Presidential nomination. Big question among political analysts is whether former CIA Director George HW Bush drops out barring some last-minute wins down the stretch of the primary season. Odds are increasingly likely that Governor Reagan will in all likelihood become the GOP nominee for the Presidency in 1980.

FL Dem Primary:

Carter: 59%✔
Edwards: 24%
Kennedy: 16%

IL Dem Primary:
Edwards: 40%✔
Carter: 28%
Kennedy: 16%

MO Dem Primary:
Carter: 39%✔
Edwards: 27%
Kennedy: 15%

NC Dem Primary:
Carter: 46%✔
Edwards: 19%
Kennedy: 16%

OH Dem Primary:
Edwards: 49.73%✔
Carter: 25%
Kennedy: 13%

Over on the Dem side, there's some consolidation taking place following the withdrawal from United States Senator Lloyd Bentsen (D-TX) on March 5th: the battle for the Democratic Party presidential nomination has come down to just three contenders: incumbent Vice President Jimmy Carter, former LA Governor Edwin Edwards (D) & United States Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA). Edwards' surprise performance in the primary season has surprised majority of political campaign analysts & experts as well as those in the news media, who are covering the 1980 Presidential campaign. While Edwards has large grassroots among some liberal activists especially those in the 18-29-year-old demographic; the former LA Governor does have staunch support among Moderates & Conservatives, majority of whom are staunch supporters of the Oil & Gas Industry: as several of whom are openly hostile to the Brown administration's energy policies. For his part, Vice President Carter is doing a delicate balance between defending the Brown administration's record on Energy, Oil & Gas, etc., while at the same time, offering a different alternative to running the country for the next 4 years. Senator Kennedy's campaign, which is still on life support despite winning MI, IL & PR, seems to be having no realistic path at winning the nomination: although Kennedy does intend to remain in the race at the very end & especially winning several more primaries down the stretch if possible, also winning more delegates along the way & forcing a brokered convention.

BREAKING: VICE PRESIDENT CARTER CALLS ON SENATOR KENNEDY TO DROP OUT IN ORDER TO STOP EDWARDS MOMENTUM

The next morning following the votes being cast on March 18th, Vice President Jimmy Carter held a press conference in Raleigh, NC & shocked the public with a specific, explicit demand: calling upon United States Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) to drop out of the race immediately. "It's becoming quite clear that Democrats have a good chance of keeping the White House with a moderate Southerner as in yours truly standing before you. However, in order for the Democratic Party to become united as one for the battle ahead of us, there can only be one strong candidate with the experience ranging from domestic policy, the economy and foreign policy achievements over the past four years of the Brown-Carter administration to win in November." The Kennedy campaign immediately shot back by rebuking the demands. This wasn't the first time Carter & Kennedy took potshots at each other during the campaign & considering things have escalated in the last few years with deep-seated hostility between the two. When asked to comment on the Carter-Kennedy feud: former LA Governor Edwin Edwards (D) smiled with mixing English & French: "Nobody should be forced to drop before this primary season is settled and over with." The escalating feud between the incumbent Vice President & the Senior United States Senator from MA might potentially work to the Louisianan's advantage.
