There is a whole lot of desperation to push gun control around this shooting, but all we are seeing is the idea of Defunding the Police getting a hold of conservatives instead.
The biggest long term effect of this shooting has been the complete destruction of the Thin Blue Line movement and a complete 180 by conservatives on respect for the police. We gave them all the help and support they needed, but they proved to all be petty cowards more worried about following orders and securing a paycheck than upholding their oaths of justice.
I have seen from a number of articles that the Police Chief of Uvadale has police guarding his home now, they know they fucked up and are defending themselves. The correct course of action at this point is simply to gather a militia and demand his resignation without compensation, by force.

You're missing the point, which is that they very quickly came down with an excessive amount of force on a business for defying the frankly illegal "lockdown," yet when faced with a situation where an armored vehicle and tactical gear would have been appropriate, they failed to act to save children and just let an active shooter do whatever he wanted for over an hour. Actually, even worse than that since they actively restrained anyone who actually did have the courage to go in there.
Neither of which are especially cheap, especially for the past couple of years. I'm honestly kind of curious what kind of AR-15s he got (since he had more than one, apparently), since they vary in cost. Though even the cheapest of them make me hesitant to buy one, and I have a fairly well-paying job for where I'm at.
You can buy decent ones for a couple hundred.
Do we know how much he was making? How long he was working?
How much his payments were on his truck?
Did his grandmother pay fir it?

Dude, it's hard to get a bolt-action .22 for a couple hundred these days. The cheapest AR I've seen was between $600 - $700.
