Bringing Darth Maul back is one of the absolute most creatively bankrupt decisions Lucasfilm ever made.

He was good in the role he had in TPM. A villain for the heroes to fight.

In TPM, he was the only good thing. A great villain, and a very good fighter. I had no problem with him. It was the rest of TPM that was a problem.

TPM has its problems. But I am generally fine with the movie.

It’s main issues are that the worldbuilding and politics are presented in such a way as to be confusing or boring or both.

To start a new discussion, it's interesting to me to see how the left have turned against Ahsoka Tano in the last couple of months. She's historically been the second most beloved female in Star Wars second only to Leia. She had quite a rocky start, mainly because fans didn't think Anakin's Padawan could possibly work in the timeline (and to be fair she doesn't), and because they didn't want a bratty kid character, but they came to like her over time.

My suspicion is that they rely on arguments that fans hate the Sequels entirely because of misogyny and because they hate strong females like Rey. This is extremely hard when the same fans that hate Rey also love Ahsoka, so Ahsoka needs to be made an object of hatred so that they can maintain their Wokeness.

Um, well if you don't like the character that's fine, and I agree on adding Time Travel to Star Wars, but that meme is entirely wrong. Original Character Donut Steel is used to point of the hypocrisy of fanfic writers getting angry at somebody else using their ideas. It's entirely inapplicable to her situation and I'm not aware of Filoni coming down on Fanfic writers in the first place. It's weird to see that being applied to Filoni and a canon character, especially when Filoni didn't even create Ahsoka, George Lucas did.



I do see spontaneous Filoni hate like that also showing up for no apparent reason though. I've seen, for instance, in the last couple of months on SB that suddenly people are accusing Filoni of being a wolf furry and talking about how he can't help but put wolves in everything he does... when the only place I can actually find wolves is the last season of Rebels and wolves certainly weren't showing up everywhere in Clone Wars.

I'm not usually one for conspiracy theories but I'm starting to put some credence to the one that some people in Disney are manipulating opinions to hose artists like JJ Abrams and Dave Filoni who don't toe the line enough and might produce non-Disney works.

My theory is that someone like Kathleen Kennedy leaked her doing a Star Wars show to the trades to try to make it happen and she was given advance warning to clean up her social media. Supposedly most of Lucasfilm didn't even know this was in the works before the leak.

I don't see how it does much good—there is a lot of video of her talking about how "white women need to step up" and "white men are silent killers of diversity" and other stuff bound to alienate fans (apart from which a "female-centric" Star Wars series sounds like a dumb idea).

I'm guessing the leak is due to the fact that recent problems with the franchise have given ammo to whatever backroom Disney people who aren't on board the drive-every-car-off-the-cliff financial strategy.

While The Mandalorian was pretty finely pureed corporate product, it was at least an effort to tell entertaining stories set in a potentially interesting period of the universe; the effort to give Headland a show sounds like two steps back and probably not what Iger and Co. want to be the headline around Star Wars right now.

All of this is ignoring Headland's real problem, the thing nobody seems to be talking about: she was Harvey Weinstein's personal assistant at Miramax when he was raping women and jerking off into planters, and she has no plausible story for how she didn't know and didn't do anything about it at the time.

Needless to say, nothing will be done about this.

I'd heard something similar. Basically KK feels slighted and enraged and leaked this project as a way to tie Iger's hand. Her contract ends in 2021, Iger has rumored political ambitions, and Kennedy wants to basically leave her mark or get revenge.

Backroom corporate politics, a very angry woman, and tussling over the future of the company.

It wasn't always spontaneous. There was a time years ago when I stumbled across the Moddb account and groups of a user who was viciously anti-New Clone Wars. The group I mentioned was something like "defenders of canon" and it was full of memes comparing the "original" clone wars timeline to big bad Dave Filoni's work.
The person's profile shared a few in hims pictures section but there were much more.
He went so far as to give the Star Wars Republic at War mod something like a 6 when it finally came out because the modders changed it to line up with the new canon somewhere in the development process. I never dug through his comments but they probably turned annoying to other users. No idea how his opinions changed after The Mouse took over, though he does have a Legends lore channel that's still active. Here's his most recent "How I would've done it" vid.
Point is that the anti-Filoni club always had their little corner of the Internet, but to read about this new kind of critique described here adds a whole different dynamic to the discussion.

It seems outlandish until you realize Lucas has done shit like destroy the real estate value of an entire town just to fuck with a city council that tried to extort him and he is capable of astounding pettiness

Take it with a grain of salt but there's no way to explain him trusting that idiot woman otherwise.

Watching the video and reading through the comments, it certainly sounds like an end to development but with the particular focus on free content updates and "completing" the game I can't help but wonder if this might actually be a case of EA pressuring dice to move towards purchasable DLC now that BFII is generally considered to have had the many problems of launch ironed out.

Yes and no. From what I remember, they were either caused by hyperdrive malfunctions, which catapulted people forward in time on a one way journey. Or were Force power related and only showed possible futures or a past where you could only watch and not interfere.
