Honestly I don't really mind the wolves. While the motif shows up frequently it's not really obtrusive with the exception of the Loth-wolves and even that I didn't mind. I just like pointing it out because I think it's funny. The Coruscant overrun by wolves thing might have taken it too far but I'm not going to judge a writer for ideas that didn't get used.

Hell, as somebody pointed out upthread it's not even his most common thing to insert, just the most obvious when he does it.

His Mando character (he plays one of the X-wing pilots) is also named "Trapper Wolf".
To be fair, from the Making Of stuff we got, Filoni neither petitioned for or really even wanted that role - he got shoved into because he could do it and then needed someone to. Which means the name it probably poking fun, more than something he drove.

Also: the Loth-wolves were awesome. Dunno why so many people seem to have a problem with them.

Yeah, Force-sensitive animals aren't exactly an unheard of idea. The Sith had the tuk'ata and the terentatek, among the others. Let the Jedi have loth-wolves or whatnot.

Force sensitive animals aren't an unheard-of idea, but both prior lore and realistic ecology say that such creatures are typically found on worlds that have very high natural levels of the Force and a lot of Jedi/Sith history, such as Myrkyr or Korriban. Lothal's supposed to be more of a random Outer Rim backwater, so having the loth-wolves kinda took away from that.

Been replaying SWTOR: KofFE...it's strange, really. I had mixed feelings about this expansion when it came out. But here and now...

...comparing it to that steaming pile of dung that is the 'High Republic'...this stuff is so far above Lucasfilm's current roster of SW material it's not even funny. I'll take the Gravestone over 'The Vessel' any day.

Not even a pretense at originality or inspiration ...

For all KOTOR and SWTOR's...eccentricities, when it comes to naming, they've certainly got more originality/inspiration than Disney-era Lucasfilm.

I mean, come on: Infinite Empire, Infinite Engine, Infinite Army, Eternal Throne, Eternal Empire, Eternal Alliance, ETERNAL Fleet. But after a while, they grow on you, and you become fond of it. Like something that started exasperating, but eventually becomes something that just sticks with you and only adds to the appeal and flair of the experience. In contrast, Disney-era Lucasfilm is just so dull, with the High Republic essentially the nadir thus far.

Force-sensitive animals are cool but the anti-Force animals are better.

Imagine if the Millennium Falcon had just been called "the Vessel".

I honestly don't see it. While some of the concept stuff revealed so far does seem mediocre, the name "High Republic" to me does deliver the desired connotation of a "past glories" era of the Old Republic.

"High Republic" isn't the problem here, it's the name of the primary means of transportation and the navigator's entire being.
Namely that the former is called "The Vessel" and the latter is a fucking rock called Geode.

I think it's less "High Republic" that's the problem, I find that name for the product just fine. Naming the ship "Vessel" and the rock "Geode" are a bit less interesting.

Edit: Sith Assassin'd!

Do you all know what Disney did to Coruscant? After the New Republic made it so that every planet can host the senate, the planet fell into a downwards spiral, with gangs roving across the districts, the richer ones included.

Given how deeply rooted corruption and criminal activity were on Coruscant even during the days of the Old Republic, I think that's actually a very realistic outcome.

Ehhh. Naming a ship "Vessel" is exactly the sort of bizarre pseudo-pretentious thing I'd expect a space hippie spice addict to think was terribly clever, to be honest. It's incredibly stupid, but it's *in character* stupid.

(Also, let's be fair -- even the classic canon spent many years calling a certain ship *class* the "Rebel Blockade Runner" as if that was a proper ship and class name. Also, they tried to justify the obvious in-character slang term "Super Star Destroyer" as an *actual* "Super-class Star Destroyer" with a lead ship actually named the "Super".)

They seriously came within a hairs breath of naming a rock person geodude.

It’s not even that it’s a rock person. It’s that they went with the lamest possible interpretation of rock person they possibly could have by making it a literal slab.

It’s not even funny or quirky lame. It’s just pathetic.

Pretty much this, yes. There's also that blatant - as in rub into your face blatant - description of the main character being woke as though it's the defining trait of their character. I am completely certain KOTOR and SWTOR players who've had their characters enter into same-sex relationships do a better job of being tolerant and accepting, if only because we don't need to smash everyone's faces with that fact every five minutes or so.
