Star Wars Star Wars Discussion Thread - LET THE PAST D-! Oh, wait, nevermind

Jacen is overrated!

THe mandos are similair to how they are in legends without Karen Traviss (Whyich is sad to me) but they are doing good thanks to The Mandolorian

Jacen is the best character in SW. For me, I see myself in him.

His love of learning, empathy, love of animals, and yes great compassion, and his questions, never ending questions.

Also fact Traitor is the best SW related work ever produced.

I’ve said so before, but when I finished it, I felt awed and satisfied.

Every character in Star Wars is over-rated by somebody.

We started talking about Thrawn, after all, who did in fact lose. Performance-wise, he's equal to Daala. Unites fractured Imperials, leads successful campaign, then gets scewed over by a factor that couldn't realistically have been predicted. In fact, we can argue that Thrawn performed worse, because he A) lost in his first campaign, whereas Daala showed at least a bit more staying power, and B) kept relying on bodyguards he was actively deceiving, which is usually a bad move (whereas Daala really couldn't have known that Jedi had the power to magically push a bunch of Star Destroyers to the edge of the system). Thrawn is just better-written, though. And he had way better publicity (also in-universe). So he gets way more credit.

And Boba Fett? Didn't he lose to an unarmed blind guy that one time?

It just depends on who we like best, and any character that's really liked by a bunch of people will be seen as over-rated by the people who don't like that character as much (or at all).

On a bizarre unrelated note, apparently it's canon that not only are dianoga's sentient, but apparently the one in the trash compactor was force sensitive.

it's stupid, and yet i'm intregied. "The Baptist" short story was actually pretty good.

For a bunch of people who explicitly wanted to ditch the weirdness of the old EU, they sure do add a lot of new weirdness.

But I'm okay with that.

yeah, I'm more ok with a dianoga being force sensitive over a droid to be fair.

Shame that the one on the death star died. Could have made for a good pet and a masccot for luke's new Jedi order.

This is a good first step in accepting the inherent Travissty that is Karen Traviss. We're proud of you. This is a new hope. :sneaky:

He is overrated. I am more of a fan of Boba and the Fett family, as well as Clan Skirata

Yessss Fetts versus Solos! The new Family Feud! Hatfields and McCoys: Star Wars Edition!

*ponders* 🤔

*realizes I can only name two Fetts and like ten Solo family members*

Well either two Fetts or like twenty million depending on how we define family lineage...

I miss Traviss mandos!

There are at least three fetts in the galaxy maybe for in legends after episode 6.

In legends post cline wars...if is a whole Clan

Karen Traviss and her Mandalorian wank were probably one of the lower points of the old EU, perhaps only exceeded by what she did with a certain character in Legacy of the Force: Sacrifice.

Her Mandos are what made them popular with the whole language and everything!

Speaking of probably one of the greater military minds in fiction (Lelouch Vi Britannia can go fuck himself), I really feel like Star Wars Rebels did him dirty. I mean come on, him getting carried off to God knows where by tentacle monsters after being beaten by Scooby Doo and the gang just makes my blood boil.
Umm, that actually plays in Thrawn's favor. The only way the Ghost crew was actually able to beat him was with something so far out of left field he could never anticipate it. Basically any straight-up confrontation Thrawn was winning.

Not really.

The Thrawn I know would have killed the lot of them in the first episode of season three then gone on to do more important things with his time. The Ghost Crew should scarcely register on the radar as far as a Grand Admiral would be concerned.

You are saying they should be bugs on a windshield for Thrawn? Sounds legit.

And it would probably be better if any interaction with Thrawn is mostly indirect. And it is them trying to do end runs around him.

I think a lot of it depends on both what characters we relate too, and which ones we happen to think are cool or interesting.

For a lot of people Thrawn is cool.

For a lot of people, Traviss Mandos are barely concealed fangirling. (Zachowon is one of the few people, I'm aware of who actually likes her Mandos and take on them in general).

Some people think the IKs are awesome, and others recoil at the (mostly) heroic Felpire.

A lot of folks like Luke, others despise and criticize him, especially Denningverse Luke.

If there is one thing, EU fans and really SW fans have-is a great diversity of opinions even within certain subsections of the forum.

I don't see how eliminating the Phoenix Cell in the season opener would've done well in advancing the goal of using said cell as bait to draw out the Rebel Fleet and destroy it in battle. But I guess the Grand Admiral has more important things to deal with then the Rebel Fleet. ;)

I miss when Mandalorians used animalistic drop-ships to invade planets from orbit. These basilisc drones were great, and the author of Kotor 2 shat all over them because "Muh unrealistic design!"

It's the whole "Xir" crap and other sjw garbage that sours these stories on me.

Then SWTOR brought it back

You know he can kill them and do that as well, right? If anything this just smacks of Dave Filoni desperately trying to concoct reasons for Thrawn to not massacre his gaggle of OCs.

Him letting them go at Yarma is just point blank retarded. No Admiral in history would turn down the chance to wipe out an isolated portion of the enemy fleet. And better yet, with them rendered ruined hulks in space, he can acquire prisoners to interrogate, access their navigation computers, study their equipment thoroughly, etc, which would give him invaluable intelligence. Aside from author fiat, there is literally no reason for the Ghost Crew to still be alive.

As for the disgrace known as the "battle of Atollon", that action should have ended a few minutes after Thrawn gives the order to "open fire." The writers of Star Wars often forget that Star Destroyers and their very sharp teeth are not just for show.
