In Legends IIRC there was a bunch of lost knowledge because the Sith Master at one point went insane (well... not the standard darkside insane) and started blowing up Sith Holocrons. There's a ton of downsides to the Baneite system on paper, which is why there's such an undercurrent of "the Baneites suck and aren't True Sith" in the fandom. The Sith Master could like fuckin' die of natural causes or an accident while they're still looking for an apprentice (or at the same time as their apprentice, if they have one), and then that's game over for the Sith, and given long enough that's going to happen at some point, probabilistically speaking.
Darth Bane and his philosophy make more sense when viewing him as ideological and quasi-religious about the Dark Side. To him, the statistics and probabilities don't matter because the Dark Side of the Force isn't going to let it happen, as long as they're true to it.

Slave 1 never really made any sense for what a bounty hunter would call his ship, so in principle I support the name change. But in practice....not so much, it's had the name for 40 years, if you're going to change it you need a more compelling reason to change it than "we're afraid SJWs on the internet might get offended". Like, if Fett had actually become a better person in the intervening years, which he has not, then a rename would work.

In unrelated news - I think I'm done with trawling for SW fanfics on FFN. The lack of "exclude character" feature in the already lackluster search engine is killing me.

FFN is lackluster for sure, but one of the few things it does have is a character exclusion filter. That's what the smaller set of "Without" filters right under the "plus" filters are for. Granted it's still not amazing since you can only filter out two at a time, but the point remains.

It sort of makes sense once you read Jango Fett: Open Seasons.
It's the Legends origin story of Jango; a Dark Horse comic.
Jango gets captured by the Jedi after a brutal battle on Galidraan and then he's handed over to an obviously corrupt planetary governor who sells him into slavery.
Jango eventually escapes and gets revenge on the governor.

Makes no sense in lore either; slavery is still a thing in the uncivilised and criminal-run parts of the SW universe, and those areas are Fett's territory.
It was a badly-written semi-romance written to appeal to teenage fangirls and Twilight-ise Star Wars between two people who have zero chemistry or narrative reason to be attracted to each other, hence the "Force Dyad" BS. There's no redeeming it. Kylo is only "cool" because he's the least emasculated of the male leads, and even he's pretty pathetic.
