Star Wars Star Wars Discussion Thread - LET THE PAST D-! Oh, wait, nevermind

So for the next trilogy... if the First Order and Final Order have already been used will the villains be the In-Between Order?
There's not going to be a next trilogy; that was their one and only shot, and they blew it. Even setting aside the damage they did to the franchise, the movie theater business is suffering in ways I don't think they're going to recover from; so pretty soon, films with several hundred million dollar budgets will be a thing of the past. There's going to be a major shift towards streaming and long-form content; so if Star Wars is going to have a future, it'll look more like The Mandalorian than any of the trilogies.

I have my doubts there won't be another shot. Voyager and Enterprise rather thoroughly wrecked the foundation of Star Trek laid by TNG and DS9 but that didn't stop the Good Idea Fairy from paying the franchise owners a visit later to produce Discovery. Heck, a lot of people thought the prequel trilogy killed Star Wars but here we are.

Sooner or later the idea of cashing in on the name and nostalgia will hit again, probably once the current furor dies down and it falls out of immediate memory. It may not even be Disney if something happens severe enough to break them up and the rights get purchased.

LOL, I don't think any kind of a "good idea fairy" had anything to do with NuTrek. If anything, I'd suggest the new iterations of both franchises has a lot more to do with the Pet Semetary than anything else. :sneaky:

I never said that they wouldn't keep trying to make Star Wars successful; remember, the entertainment industry is mostly incapable of coming up with new ideas, so they're stuck trying to make the old ones work.

On a related note*...SWTOR received a story update last week, Dark Descent. It's been confirmed that Darth Malgus has broken the conditioning Darth Acina/Darth Vowrawn (depending on PC choices in the past) used to keep them under control, and along with Field Marshal Kol from last year's Spirit of Vengeance update, is shaping up as one of the antagonists of the new story arc set to begin at the end of this year.

*Aside from TV series like the Mandalorian, video games like SWTOR are the only Star Wars works left with good writing.

SWTOR has good writing.
Outside of a few of the main story line that is.

Point, considering KotFE and KotET, but even at their worst they still had better writing than either the sequel trilogy and the written material around them. Even the whole War on Iokath arc still proves more engaging than anything Disney has added to the franchise.
Eh.
Some of thee comics have better story telling the the COunsaler story. It has some parts better then the Sith storylines as well.

No disagreement there. Honestly, the writers really seemed to have doubled-down on the...Jedi-ness, when it came to writing the class stories of the Jedi Knight and Jedi Consular characters. Especially the latter...it's not bad, the way the sequel trilogy was, but...bland. Not even Gary Stu/Mary Sue bad, just...boring, perfect hero bland.

The Jedi Knight class story might come off as rather generic, but they're not nearly as bland as the Jedi Consular's class story. Kira and Lord Scourge come off as breaths of fresh air, hell, I daresay Kira is exactly what Disney wishes Rey could be, considering she's...

...one of the Children of the Emperor.

She definitely is a great character.

I feel like Jedi Knight is the most canon for the expansions.

But the Darth Vader comics are up there for Disney Canon

She definitely is a great character.

On that we are agreed.

Considering that SWTOR is a MMO, plus Bioware behind the story...I think all storylines are canon, just AUs of each other. They certainly went through the trouble to take into account PC choices, i.e. Dark Jedi characters go join the Empire in Jedi Under Siege onwards, or Light Sith go join the Republic, as much as Sith staying with the Empire/Jedi staying with the Republic.

I think canonically a team of each class is canon.
Woth the outsider being the jedi knight in KOTET and etc.

With the others being there to support.
I could see the four force classes all being a team to combat the Emps

Basically up until KOTEE and KOTET, each class was canon as they all took place and events of other characters reflect other aspects in some way shape or form

Disney will reboot the original trilogy in a decade with new actors. Guarantee they'll do it. They have to do it within a decade because the generation that saw the original movies in their teens and 20s will be retiring. Gotta cash in before they start being shoved into retirement homes or cemeteries and won't pay to see movies.

Yup. Also, remember that the Star Trek reboot films happened right around the time the first generation of TOS fans started aging out.
