Nice article detailing a slice of the breadth of Iran's haphazard response to the Coronavirus.

Iran is fucked, and should be taken as a warning for what this beastie can do to nation's ability to govern if the bug hits the top ranks in large numbers.

This happening during election season in the US could make campaigning like normal dangerous for everyone involved. I'm not sure how our system will handle things if we have to go the Brit direction and suspend Congress due to health risks. And voting centers could become risky to visit, and paper ballots dangerous to handle, because of risk of transmission. Hell, cash money itself could become a risk; several countries have already had to quarantine large amounts of cash money to sterilize due to the virus.

This bug is no joke, and just comparing death rates is ignoring the second and third order effects already happening. Trying calm the increasing alarm in people with mod speak or 'its not bad by me' posts is like trying to shut the barn door after the horse is already out.

How bad are we talking? Because from most of what I head in the other thread covering it is that most of the mortality rates are coming in from the virus taking down people with weak immune systems like the elderly.

Woah it's every Iranian for themselves.

Ten billion dead in China alone. Double the death rate of Hurricane Katrina. Could be stopped if Bloomberg spend some of that 500 million on the health care of six billion people world wide! That could've been 120,000 dollars per person in the world. Life changing!

Couldn't have happened to a nicer regime.
Although I really love how while they are releasing their criminals, they are keeping their American hostages, shows exactly the type of people these are.

It depends heavily on your quality of healthcare. The unavoidable deaths aren't much higher than the common cold, but unlike the common cold is there is a massive hospitalization rate, as much as 20% of those infected need professional medical aid to deal with pneumonia. The worry is that if it spreads too quickly and the health care system cannot handle the load, then the death rate will increase.

SO MUCH THIS.

It is not the current death rates that are scaring people, it's fearing what is likely coming if this crashes the healthcare system due to overloading it.

I want to be proven wrong about how severe this could get, make no mistake.

I am more concerned about the food supply, your average city only has a few days worth of food on hand at any given time. We are already starting to see food runs, those can get very bad very quickly. All the happy words we say about being civilized fly out the window when people are hungry.

I heard somewhere the US was moving SAMs and other such equipment into Iraq.

At this point, war is probably inevitable.

This time they finally got it right.

All Iran literally has to do to get their hedgemony is sit back and do nothing we are already leaving the region.

We could destroy their entire navy and airforce in a month tops idiots.

Oh Iran... what are you sillyheads up to now?

I guess Iran is somewhat upset about China downplaying Corona. I can’t really agree with Dryad’s analysis why would the US care about Iran impounding a Chinese ship right now, I don’t think this is a response to US sanctions.
