He already did - shortly before Suleimani was killed, there was an attempt to storm the US embassy. It was foiled because so many troops were rushed in that it became unfeasible, but it's said that Suleimani was in Iraq for that action - and the US knew, killing him because of that, as well as the attack on north Iraq that had killed an American.
However, it looks like this student is a dumb one, so the lesson may have to be repeated...
US Embassy in Baghdad is like a billion dollar fortress complex the size of Vatican City. Hopefully it has enough security staff on site to make the storming of it more Somme-esque if they do try taking the main compounds.
Pretty soon it won't matter.
I was seeing reports a few days, before this current attack plan was reported, indicating we are going to be removing our embassy from Baghdad completely and pulling remaining US troops out of Iraq in the near future.
Which is fine by me; we never should have gone into Iraq under Bush anyway.

Yeah, you're right, he was the ambassador and she never lived in Kuwait. And the sources Amnesty International used to "confirm" her testimony all turned out to be people who fled before the Iraqi's arrived. But by the time that became clear we were already fighting.

If they had left the embassy alone we would probally get along just fine these days, if they hadn't gone on a pissing match with Israel to try to please an Arab street that will never love them the Israelis would have worked out a deal that would have them as a normal part of the geo political scene. Really America doesn't want to be in the middle east at all we are leaving the only reason we are dicking around is because Iran has to wave its dick around.

Unlike long ago they have a neighbour separated by an ocean that has far more of everything to wave their dick around.
Now the Arabs are scared shitless of their closer neighbour Iran who wants to like Turkey think they have what it takes to be great again which means those middle eastern nations that used to be under their umbrella don't like that and are making peace with Israel who have no interest in a Jewish Empire.
