Speaking of TNG characters-who else is going to be in it?
Michael Dorn would probably show up if they made Worf a captain of a starship (maybe even the Enterprise). I dunno if they'd do that for S2, after being so non-Starfleet in S1, but maybe they could do a little arc where Worf helps them out of something.

Well Data did begin to have emotions and dreams and so on. Becoming ever more sapient was the essence of the character. But yeah he didn’t age. Or die.

As for Q-maybe use some special effects to have him turn back into his original 1993 self. Just to show the audience-“yes we know De Lancie is old, but IU he’s just doing this to relate with the crew” and to show he can.

I’ve heard Gates McFadden isn’t interested-which given the long simmering romantic tension between her and Picard in TNG makes no sense and is rather sad.
The one character from TNG everyone loved of course....Whill Wheaton.

Who wants to take bets on how hard this bleeds viewers after rhe first episode? Apparently the premier was already a shitshow...

He has fans

Supergirl & Lucifer have fans even with SJWism, this will probably still be considered a success

Honestly, I wonder what would happen if “Picard” went to England and ended up actually encountering ACTUAL Sharia Patrols, No-Go Zones & Grooming Gangs

Counterpoint: both of those had way less expectations and carved niches for themselves along with merchandise sales. This is a already existing thing that has a audiences the "investors" expect to CONSOOM without thought and when the news comes that no, not every trekkie under the sun is watching and buying it there will be backlash.

Okay, still they can afford to ignore the consequences of betraying ones’ fanbase

Man, I’d like to see him have a response to stuff like this

So....I saw the first episode...and I thought it was pretty good. I enjoy this will be a more Romulan focused series, and hopefully build up lore after the supernova wrecked Romulus hard.

I'm also okay with Starfleet becoming more isolationist, considering the Dominion War, the Borg, and that attack on Mars. I can also see Picard being resentful over it.

So it's decent? Or do you think this is a bait start and the real shit comes later?

Considering the last season of STD, it's certainly possible that it's a bait start (seriously, from New Eden to that train wreck at the end? How is that possible?)

I think one thing going for this is Patrick Stewart, Jeri Ryan, and other Star Trek alumni. I'm hoping they will have a better understanding of their characters and what they stand for to the fans.

I’m just miffed we will never forget the Hobus Trilogy equivalent of Destiny novel series.

Discovery season 2 had a showrunner change 5 episodes in, due to the showrunners being such assholes that CBS couldn't ignore it. Kurtzman had to pick up the pieces and basically slapped shit together from that point on.

What?

I was referring to the Star Trek novel series Destiny. The one with the hyper advanced aliens and the borg invasion.

It was a hope of mine that we would get a Hobus Trilogy or books along the same vein. And basically close out the 24th century Star Trek.

Given some of the rumors I've heard, I think we're more likely to see things that tie to the Star Trek Online timeline than the Novels. From what I've heard, STO has been consulted on their lore by Picard showrunners and apparently the new flagship class of the Federation from STO, the Odyssey class, is going to be canonized in Picard, as it's already appeared in the prequel comics...

Harlock

I should have expected that really
It wasn't half bad honestly. Patrick Stewart delivers a very solid performance and while he does seem weary it is justified by him being rather disillusioned and of course much older. Nice to see some TOS Style Romulans too.

I disagree with the glimpses we see of federation culture, and some bits are dumb, but yeah not as bad as I expected. I liked Picard mentioning Dunkirk as that was obviously personal to Patrick Stewart given his father fought there. Dog was good to see too :p

Overall it isn't what I'd call Trek, but as a new sci fi series lifting certain ideas from Trek has potential

Personally the novel verse is my head canon* and I will likely not ever get around to watching the show.

*Well destiny and the DTI are. And maybe the voyager relaunch. The rest I’m picky and choosy about.
