Basically this. The majority of LGBT's who aren't trenders fall in this. Sure, we are proud to be gay, but it isn't the defining part of our identity. Normalization is basically the goal, to eventually become something like the irish or the italians. Basically integrated, but occasionally we celebrate our heritage.
This is the trender/activist part of the LGBT. But the silent majority of LGBT is basically the opposite. We are actually becoming LESS 'degenerate' as we get access to rights. I mean, in comparison to the bath houses in the 80s, or even worse, the street sex of the pre-Stonewall era in NYC, things have become remarkably more normal. LGBT people are now having lasting, legally binding marriages which even have kids. People just don't know how bad the actual degeneracy was in the 60s, and think things are getting worse now.
I'm actually going to be sad when the whole leatherman subculture dies out. Those guys have the best jokes.
