The whole rationale seems to be-“give representation to LGBT”.

You know...it’s telling they do that. They create such characters but they aren’t successful or well liked so they change established ones for what can only be to chase nonexistent “minority” audiences and piss off their fans. Apparently.

Before the situation can escalate, Steve Chang arrives with his husband Trevor to defuse the confrontation in their role as official inspectors tasked by the United Nations. Steve is an Asian-American medical physician while Trevor is an African-American soldier, in keeping with the character's historical military background

And that is all you need to know. And just FYI: the Greek refugee camps aren't run by soldiers in reality, but by civilian authorities in conjunction with the UNHCR and a whole bunch of sometimes dubious NGOs.

Basically this. The majority of LGBT's who aren't trenders fall in this. Sure, we are proud to be gay, but it isn't the defining part of our identity. Normalization is basically the goal, to eventually become something like the irish or the italians. Basically integrated, some slight differences than normal (italian food, irish beer, gay interior design), and occasionally we celebrate our heritage.

LGBT people are now having lasting, legally binding marriages which even have kids. People just don't know how bad the actual degeneracy was in the 60s, and think things are getting worse now.
