Media/Journalism Cringe Megathread - Hot off the Presses

food trucks
Those tend to be more expensive than fast-food restaurants like McDonald's in my neck of the woods and I ain't paying $7 or more for a McDonald's "value meal" when I can get authentic Mexican for $20+ from a Taco Truck.

The one in my neck of the woods offers fried ice cream, which I haven't seen on a sit-down Mexican restaurant menu since I was a kid.

I don't speak Spanish. My wife does.

She says they learned the trick from a Bolivian gal named Lupita in Seattle years ago.

We've got more than a few places where I live that have Fried Ice Cream on the menu. It's even one of the desserts for an Asian fusion restaurant here!

Anyway...wth were we talking about?

You're probably getting a Chilean or Argentine restaurant before you're getting a Mexican one.

if you get a chilian resturant be careful with cola de mono while delicious that stuff can and will knock you on your ass if you treat it like a cocktail.

If you get Pan de huevo eat it as quickly as possible as the bread is best when its fresh and when it hardens it loses some of its flavor. In general the stews will be pretty safe bets, the lamb is all about the skill of the cheff and if your honestly worried go with Chorrillana because its really hard to scre that up.

Yeah, even Al-Jezeera is surprisingly good for news as long as you ignore all stories involving Israel or Qatar.
The Financial Times and The Economist have fairly good global non-financial news that's often buried in articles about the "money and stuff" if you can spot it.

EDIT: If you want to know what's actually going on in the heart of a major city you should read the free paper practically everyone who isn't looking to hire X-rated companionship basically ignores. They know what's going on will tell you about it.

Business insider is good on defense and international stuff from what I noticed.

Defense news and mokitary times like Admy, Marines are both good good defense and international stuff

If a reporter or journalist is willing to sit I'm a foxhole with a soldier on the front lines to get the story, then they definitely deserve some respect.

Like the reporter who went with US troops I'm A Stan and made The Hornets Nest documentary
