They must know they can never win the Hispanic vote. Or any more than a small fraction of the black vote.

They seem to want to be loyal opposition. Having the perks of power while letting the Democrats rule.

The republican elite is absolutely contemptuous of its base.

Jared Kushner is alleged to have said “the trailer parks aren’t going anywhere”.

They know their voters will never vote Dem because the Dems despise them. So they rely on conservatives holding their nose while spiting their voters chasing the phantom of winning minorities to the party.

The sooner the next generation purges the GOP off the Repcucks, the better. These politicans are sell-outs.

Like honestly a lot of young conservatives are going to be attracted to a far less palatable politics.

That is white nationalism/racialism.

Because the Republican Party and the conservative punditry and commentariat have shown to be worse than useless but openly abetting the destruction of the country just so the leftist mob comes after them last.

And they have no one but themselves to blame.

Arrrghh

"Reckoning" as in "white people grovel and prostrate themselves". Its literally religious language.

Fucking infuriating.

If the republican party were to lose in November and repudiate Trump-they would never win an election again.

They literally believe they can repudiate their voters and somehow win...maybe 10% of the black vote and if their really lucky, 15% of the hispanic vote.

While the Democrats hold a national monopoly.
It's important to remember that establishment Republicans are not that different from establishment Democrats; they both hate Trump because he's not a career politician. I sense that the reason we're seeing a resurgence of open anti-Trump sentiment amongst some of the Republicans, is because they believe he's weakened at the moment, and think this is their opportunity to wrest some measure of control over the party from him.

Actually, the conservative punditry has mostly sided with Trump over the Republican Establishment. No, seriously, go look through the actual Conservative commentary sites, the vast majority of them side heavily with Trump. Even National Review has more pro-Trump writers than never!Trump writers. You're falling for the gaslighting pushed by the media that has amplified the never!trump commentators in order to make them seem more important than they are.

Honestly, I may not be an expert at US Politics

But I think Trump was a catalyst for the confidence of many guys who disliked the Far Left, even for moderate democrats and centrists to speak out and work alongside even those "right wingers" while actually coming to an understanding

Guy may not be a saint, but he understand people on a more basic level compared to those of the Far Left.

Eh... I wouldn’t say proTrump as much as still anti left. Charlie Cooke, Kevin Williamson, Jim Gerghty and even Rich Lowry are all more than willing to hammer Trump, mostly when he deserves it. They aren’t Breitbart or Fox or OAN, they still have some level of anti Trump in them. On the other hand, they haven’t completely abandoned their principles like Bulwark has, or how the Dispatch often seems likely to.

As someone who still considers themself a Never-Trumper, I appreciate that in NRO.

Reminds me of a journo saying that Brazilian newsrooms had 'never been so free' since Bolsonaro decided to cut out money to newspapers and news channels. They don't have to pretend they are rooting for his failure.

Is there a translated article or commentary on this or anything?

Sounds straight up like a Onion headline...

"Cities with weakened and morale-less police shocked by crime wave as people realize that The Purge was an instructional video"

I am surprised they're doing this
Eh, half-and-half. They banned the confederate flag, which has a lot of cultural significance beyond the confederacy and is also a part of at least one other flag. That plus this, someone near the top has chosen a political stance. Generally, what happens with the US military (militantly anti-political) is that guys like that end up out on their ass in some dead-end position pretty quickly. My guess is that we'll soon see a three-star in command of a base in Alaska.

I think this might have been a sort of political gambit for power, if he'd easily lose, he wouldn't have done it
