Media/Journalism Cringe Megathread - Hot off the Presses

I feel that the southern switch was just the old democrats dying off and their kids and grandkids not really wanting to be part of the racist democrats anymore.

And then the democrats and the media claiming that it was because the racist southerners realized the party of Lincoln were the real racists and wanted to be with them. They just thought it was democrats up to that point for some reason till they figured out the truth.
There's a number of items that feed into it, but the one that galls me the most is the ironically quite racist stereotype of all southerners being racist hicks. If they started voting for the Republicans, then it must be because the Republicans became more racist, not because the south became less racist.

If I was mentally stunted academically minded enough to grasp grievance politics I'd write a piece about Southern Original Sin and how, in the eyes of certain political lexicons, the south is the source of all ills in the United States and why the US should have let them secede. Would be worth at least a chuckle.

Zuckerburg and the other tech bros havent quite realized that they have crossed from too dangerous to fuck with into too dangerous to let live some time ago and now its only a matter of time until revenge is had.

Which makes them sue-able?

If they're ruled to be a publisher, every single instance of copyrighted material on their platform without proper permissions, they become legally liable.

Which means that they can be sued for literally more money than exists, and they'll more or less disintegrate as they pay out damages, probably selling out to someone who will just change policy to have it be a platform instead.

I can't think of a more fitting fate. Hopefully Youtube and Google will be next.

Except Facebook has always danced on the line. They declare themselves publishers whenever doing so is more advantageous, then they are platforms again when that is more advantageous, and they are perfectly willing to claim to be both at the same time.

It's like Jon Stewart's clown nose act. He wants you to take him seriously as a serious commentator, except when you prove that he's wrong about something then 'I'm just a comedian' comes out.

Or they just censor everything which could potentially be copyrighted.

Realistically they'll disable access to the site within seconds of a ruling that they're a publisher, and will remain nonfunctional (with plummetting stocks) until they can scrap together a business model that accounts for their new reality (and the accompanying code and RnD efforts).

There's a thing called "fair use". I can quote you or paraphase you within limits. An exact copy of everthing will get me sued if I don't have permission to relay it.

I really have been trying to figure out where the root of this insanity on the left is coming from, My working theory is that this is clearly the work of a foreign power for the express purpose of destabilizing the US.
Like this does look like the sort of subversive activity the USSR would have engaged in during the cold war, Except in this instance I suspect it would be coming from the PRC.

No. It comes from the views of billionaires laundered through their captive intellectuals, media and NGO's. Without that tidal wave of fake charity money supporting the vast parasite class of activists and amplified via social media, this stuff would still be limited to obscure departments in universities and tiny fringe journals.

Do you think they have the capacity to police their own platform for fair use as it stands right now? They'll have to do a massive realignment, and that takes time and money.

Some of it, sure. An enormous portion though comes from government funding, both directly, and through how federal interference in the student loan market has given colleges absurdly bloated budgets.

If they hadn't been able to raise tuition practically at will, how many universities would have ever started gender studies departments in the first place??
