That's exactly it. They don't give a fuck about the Palestinians; they just want to look good to everyone else/sniff their own farts.
Let's be clear about something,
No-one cares about the Palestinians.
Not the Arab leadership, who use them as a distraction for their own screwups
Not the Arab street, who use them as an acceptable excuse the vent their rage at their crappy leadership
Not the Palestinian leadership - who are rather open about using them as ablative shielding/disposable cannon fodder
Not the Turks, Iranians, or Pakistanis, who act just like the Arab leaders in this regard
Not the Russians, who just want to keep the pot boiling in the ME to keep oil prices up
Not the Chinese, who just want to keep the US distracted
Not the "third world" who want a cost-free bargaining chip to improve relations with Opec leadership
Not the european left - who want an excuse to run riot, and a stick to beat the european right
Not the european right - who want another stick to beat the european left
Not the european leadership - who want an excuse to pontificate about how moral and enlightened they are
Not the American right - who would happily dump the entire Middle east into deep space if the opportunity arose
Not the american left - who want an excuse to run riot, and to pontificate about how moral and enlightened they are
Not the american leadership - who want both muslim votes and jewish PAC money without endangering their own positions and power.
Not the UN bureaucrats - who want another pork barrel to feed from.
Based on their own behavior, not even the Palestinians care about the Palestinians. They're much more interested in killing jews, christians, and alphabet-types than improving their own circumstances.
There are probably more people running around who genuinely care about helping Kurds and Romani than there are who actually give two shits about the Palestinians.
