Gun Political Issues Megathread. (Control for or Against?)

Terthna, is there ANYTHING positive you have to say about anything, or possibly offer some sort of compromise or solution? Seriously, is there?

I’m asking because at this point it feels like you are completely convinced we and the whole world are doomed and we should just turn the keys and be done with it. It’s not a particularly healthy attitude for, well, anybody.
Well, I have been getting incredibly pessimistic as of late; I won't deny that. Still, if you're looking for solutions; fixing the system itself by voting the RINOs and the rest of the establishment out of office is the first step. For as much as the vote has clearly been compromised, there is a threshold beyond which cheating just doesn't accomplish enough for them to keep "winning" elections.

this is going to be a generational fight.

and the establishment is fucked too, no bodys going to have a good time not even them.
What's that line Tony Stark said to Loki "We may not be able to save the world, but we can damn well avenge it."

I think that is the general feeling of a lot more of the young people these days, and is what part of what drives people like Greta Thurberg, even if she's more a tool of her parents than anything.

It's why the intergenerational issues that led to the 'Ok, Boomer' memes are so widespread; a lot of the youth can see through the charade their parents and grandparents tried to maintain for their self-comfort and peace of mind.

Telling Boomers they won't get a cushy, fun retirement era like their parents had is going to be one of the most devastating realizations many older folk are going to be going through in the near future, if they haven't already.

Us Centennials are both cursed and blessed. We grew up in the 90s but weren't Gen X'ers, and were too old to be Millennials, and we saw the end of what might be end of humanities Golden Age when 9/11 happened and blew everything open. Many people these days don't get how much we lost and in such a short time, or how the downslope may not end in our, or our childrens, life time, even if we work hard at it.

Personally I think trying to just beef up Musk's stuff and just try to escape to Mars might be simpler and more sustainable in the long run; light lag is a problem and solution all in one.
See, this is the mentality that allows them to win. They've already beaten you mentally. Look at this shit:

This is the problem. Yes you have power to work for change. A crowd is made up of individuals, and you can be one of them. I show up and do things for the libertarian party. Am I horribly important? No, but I am a useful piece in the machine. Seriously, find a campaign you believe in, not necessarily a political party, and get active.
I came from a Hard-D household, I went to liberal arts schools, and even the environmental masters I tried for. I know what the other side is like and how they think, and many steps ahead of the conservative/populist base they are already operating on/have plans for.

And most of the time when I'm trying to warn people that the Right really isn't prepared for the lengths the Desm want to go to, I'm laughed off. Coming out to support Trump and the sanity he represented cost me most of my social circle and many long time friends, while also alienating family, and what happens when I donate to Bernie in 2016; Hillary's supercandndates make it all worthless. Donating to Trump and couple others in 2020 gets tons of spam donation texts, calls, and emails with 'double-dip' donation buttons and recurring donation buttons already preselected, forcing me to deselect every time.

And lets be blunt, the Libertarian Party is something I would love to have more power and impact, but I also know it seems to have it's own internal ego fights that keep it from being effective, which is just the cherry on the shit sunday.

I hope I'm wrong about how fucked things are, but I see more reinforcing this feeling every day, and before the Ukraine War broke out I might have even thought we could economically/socially hold it together, but now it feels like the future is either going to be 1984 or the Fallout series.

I respectfully concur on this. If you've thrown in the towel and would rather just lay down and die at this point....then, yes, they've won. They broke you. They got what they want from you. That's EXACTLY how they want you to feel.

Perhaps this video will help?

"Pain, or damages, don't end the world, nor despair, nor fuckin' beatings. The world ends when you're dead! Until then, you've got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man, and give some back."

All I'm saying is that there's a time for rearranging the deck chairs, but it's not when the pirates have boarded; we can do that after we've retaken the ship.

And how are we supposed to effectively fight back when the ballot box is untrustworthy on the national scale?

Seriously, no amount of grit, determination, or guts can change the fact that the institutions most of American society used to have faith in and that held the American identity/culture together are either compromised or corrupt, even SCOTUS now thanks to that leak.

The younger generations are also living shorter, more difficult lives than their parents for the first time in a long time in human history, and the youth know our prospects are not good and only getting worse. And that's even before we count in fuckery from the Wu Flu vaxs and their likely effects on fertility going forward.

People on the Right need to focus on survival, not 'victory', in politics.

Because this is going to be a multi-generational fight to even get back to where we were as a nation before 2020, and that's an optimistic outlook that assumes the Uniparty's power actually declines instead of strengthens do to stress on the system. 'Victory' will not be achieved in our lifetimes, likely not the next gens lifetime either, and the Left won't stop adapting either.

Reports: Biden admin orders ammo maker to stop selling 5.56 rounds to Americans

The Biden administration has reportedly ordered an ammunition manufacturer to stop selling Americans some 5.56mm rounds, which is the most common for the AR-15 semi-automatic rifle.
In an effort to severely limit the sale of ammo used in AR-15s, the U.S. military has ordered Winchester – which manages the U.S. Army’s Lake City ammunition plant – to stop selling its excess M855/SS109 (5.56mm) ammo to the public, The Truth About Guns reported citing a source close to the matter.

The Lake City plant, located in Independence, Missouri, produces nearly 30 percent of the commercial market’s sales of 5.56 ammo.
Larry Keane, the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s general counsel and senior vice president, first revealed the administration’s plans in a tweet on Wednesday.

“The U.S. Military is actively considering shutting down the sale is M855/SS109 ammo from Lake City to the commercial market. @NSSF @NRAILA #GreenTipAmmo @POTUS @JoeBiden,” Keane tweeted.

The cartridges that Keane mentioned are very popular forms of 5.56 ammo. The Biden administration’s new order will likely disrupt the supply of 5.56 ammo and cause prices to increase.

The Lake City plant is owned by the federal government but operated by private contractors, according to the National Rifle Association, and produces “well over a billion rounds of ammunition per year.”

“Ammunition in excess of the government’s requirements has long been made available to the private commercial market. Lake City’s output, according to some estimates, accounts for one-third of the 5.56 caliber ammunition available to U.S. consumers,” the NRA continued. “Needless to say, this attack on America’s ammunition supply is just the most recent in a long line of anti-freedom attacks by the Biden Administration.”

The restriction of Americans’ ammo supply is the latest anti-gun action supported by President Joe Biden, who has repeatedly called for the outright ban of AR-15 rifles. Biden praised a recent bipartisan agreement on new gun control measures – which includes incentives for state-run gun confiscation – but argued it still isn’t enough.

“Obviously, it does not do everything that I think is needed, but it reflects important steps in the right direction, and would be the most significant gun safety legislation to pass Congress in decades,” Biden said in a White House statement on Sunday. “With bipartisan support, there are no excuses for delay, and no reason why it should not quickly move through the Senate and the House. Each day that passes, more children are killed in this country: the sooner it comes to my desk, the sooner I can sign it, and the sooner we can use these measures to save lives.”

How red flag laws will play out

1jULOStuai3Y.jpeg

In which case, there will be no investigation of (much less consequences for) the school, or the random nobody who decided you were dangerous and called in to begin with. (Although, hopefully, red-flagging someone who clearly wasn’t in the wrong will fall under filing a false police report, though you can bet it won’t be seen that way in Blue areas.)

Bank wants to track suspect credit card sales of guns, ammo – but can't

The credit card industry has blocked a novel effort to track suspect firearm and ammunition purchases, depriving law enforcement of a potential tool to identify and stop gun crime.

Documents obtained by CBS News show employees from domestic and international credit card companies, including Visa, Mastercard and American Express, pushed back on an application to create a merchant category code for firearm and ammunition sellers.

The application was first submitted in July 2021 by the New York-based Amalgamated Bank, and was twice denied by the International Standards Organization (ISO), which sets standards across the financial services industry. The documents show that the credit card industry employees were part of an internal committee within ISO that recommended the application's rejection. The ISO told CBS News the credit card companies only advised the committee and did so in a "personal capacity."

"So much illegal gun activity depends on your ability to use the financial system to buy the guns," Priscilla Sims Brown, the CEO of Amalgamated Bank told CBS News chief investigative correspondent Jim Axelrod in an exclusive interview.

Amalgamated was founded by union workers nearly 100 years ago and bills itself as the nation's oldest socially responsible bank.

"We believe you can do well and do good," Sims Brown said.

The bank began considering applying for a unique firearms seller code after it said it noticed some of the deadliest mass shootings were being financed with credit cards.

The shooter who terrorized a Colorado movie theater in 2012 charged more than $9,000 worth of guns, ammunition and tactical gear in the two months leading up to his attack that killed 12 and injured 70.

The man who shot up the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, killing 49 people, put more than $26,000 on credit cards.

And the shooter who killed 59 at a music festival in Las Vegas charged almost $95,000.

"We have an obligation to address crime that is being facilitated through our system," Sims Brown said.

What merchant codes for gun sales would yield
Sims Brown said a merchant category code for firearm and ammunition sellers would yield data that could identify a transaction was made at a gun store, while not revealing which individual products were purchased. Merchant codes are used across all sorts of industries.

"So you might be — a nail salon. You might be a sporting goods store. There's a merchant category code assigned to you, so that we can see that purchase has been made," Sims Brown said.

And while even shoeshine parlors have their own merchant code, the nearly 9,000 standalone U.S. guns sellers do not. With a unique code for firearm and ammunition sellers, the bank said it could run software to detect purchases in the same way it detects evidence of other suspicious activity, like fraud and human trafficking.

"We could identify and detect where there may be gun sales that are intended for black markets, where we see patterns of gun purchases being made in multiple gun shops," Sims Brown said. "We could see the patterns of behavior that would indicate to us that there is something not right here."

The bank said it could then file what's called a suspicious activity report with law enforcement if they suspect possible gun crimes. Banks and credit unions made more than 1.4 million of the reports in 2021, flagging transactions that might suggest anything from identity theft to terrorist financing.

"Financial institutions provide information to law enforcement on a regular basis," former ATF senior special agent Jim Yurgealitis told Axelrod. He spent more than two decades investigating gun crime for the federal law enforcement agency.

Yurgealitis said he believed law enforcement would benefit from a unique code for firearm sellers, especially in cases when someone is buying a large amount of weapons or in the case of a straw purchase, when someone is buying a weapon for someone who isn't legally allowed to have one.

"It may bring to the attention of law enforcement something that they were previously unaware of," Yurgealitis said.

The application
In July 2021, Amalgamated submitted its application to the International Standards Organization "for the creation of a new merchant category code (MCC) for gun and ammunition stores." The application was sent directly to two employees of Visa and Mastercard who serve as industry representatives on an ISO committee that considers new merchant category codes.

"I can confirm that the MCC code application has been received and will be brought forth for discussion when the committee meets again," the Mastercard employee wrote in an email to Amalgamated.

In October, the bank's application was denied. Before it applied, the bank was informed by the Visa employee in an email: "Although I can't specify the actual voters or individual names, there is representation from all the major cards [sic] brands globally (MC, Visa, Amex, JCB, Discover, etc.)."

Amalgamated decided to appeal the decision after seeking further input from the card company employees.

"Specific MCC [codes] in narrow retails [sic] areas are challenging," wrote an employee from American Express. "Managing long lists of narrowly defined MCCs can become burdensome if there isn't a compelling reason for the long list."

In February, the international organization denied Amalgated's appeal. In an email, the bank was told a new code for gun and ammunition sellers would fail to capture "the sales at sporting goods stores" and, at the same time, would place a "burden" on small retailers.

Sims Brown said she was incredulous the organization denied Amalgamated's appeal.

"I mean, the shoeshine shop has a merchant code," she said. "Why not the gun shop? It's just so obvious. it's hard to deny the logic."

The International Standards Organization told CBS News the credit card companies were not responsible for the decision. Employees from those companies were serving in a personal capacity and "do not represent the views of their employer." Those who pushed to reject Amalgamated's application did so "based on their expertise," the organization said.

In statements to CBS News, American Express and Mastercard both said they were working to ensure only lawful purchases were permitted on their networks, but offered no specifics. Visa declined to comment.

Neither Visa, Mastercard, nor American Express would say if their companies supported creating a merchant code for firearms sellers, when asked by CBS News. In a statement, Mastercard said "we believe that it is the responsibility of elected officials to enact meaningful policies to address the issue of gun violence, while it remains Mastercard's role to ensure that consumers are permitted to make lawful purchases on our network."

Sims Brown said she disagreed.

"It is our responsibility," she said. "What price do you put on a life? If it stops two people from dying, isn't that worth it?"

"Socially Responsible" Bank wants to be able to track firearm and ammunition purchases... "The bank said it could then file what's called a suspicious activity report with law enforcement..." if they don't like your shopping habits.
"So much illegal gun activity depends on your ability to use the financial system to buy the guns," Priscilla Sims Brown, the CEO of Amalgamated Bank told CBS News chief investigative correspondent Jim Axelrod in an exclusive interview.
The fact that somebody actually believed people are bringing their credit cards to a back alley illegal gun purchases is beyond comical.

Know how many Europeans died due to Islamic terrorism in the entire 20th century? 21.

Know how many died after America went and started fucking up the Middle East and Europe backed them up? Enough to become a meme.

So fuck off random twitter shitbag, Europe is dealing with this shit because of America, we had this shit under control until fucking yanks started screwing things up for us. Blaming Europe for not being ready to handle the massive terrorism and immigration problems your government made is utter cuntery.

I mean really?

@Harlock
Europe was gonna get invaded/immigrated by the ME no matter what America did. It was simply a matter of time.
No. They did this because we went over there and started fucking with them. Oh, they'd be a shitty place to live regardless of what we did, but the reason why they attacked us is because we attacked them, bombing them, and fucking with them for far longer than we like to admit. Hardline Islamism owes it's popularity to America proving the crazies right.
