You're not the only one. The Wisconsin branch of my family has been dyed in the blue Union people since the days of the Pinkertons. Donald Trump is the first Republican they've ever voted for. They still voted against Scott Walker because how dare he insinuate that Unions are anything other than God's gift to mankind, but otherwise they've boarded the Trump train. Its one of those ethnic slurs that I don't think I've ever heard a white person actually use.
I mean when a racist douche is looking to go for a slur they normally go strait for the N word, the only people I've ever heard use that word as an ethnic slur in real life were well black people.

Literally the ONLY time I ever remember seeing it used outside of people talking about how it's a slur, was in the movie Forrest Gump.
