Breaking News Genghis Khan's Tomb Unearthed.

Considering this was posted on 28th July and the tomb was discovered well before the article was written, I would say the nuclear armageddon is well behind the schedule. And that is if the site was not fooled by some pranksters as it would not be the first time the tomb was ''found''. I would wait for the Mongolian National TV reporting on it before celebrating the find.

It was in all likelihood just another Mongol Khan from before Genghis. And if that's the case I doubt they'll report it.

Had a look on the internet, this exact article has been making rounds since 2016, so it's hoax.

Yeah, I wondered why there weren’t more reports out there that corroborated it, seeing as the source itself was a bit sketchy-looking to me. (Although, if his tomb actually were discovered, I assume the various corporate outlets would also report on it, big story and all.)

Oh, well.

It was in all likelihood just another Mongol Khan from before Genghis. And if that's the case I doubt they'll report it.

I know I just got done saying whatever curses Timur (and Genghis, for that matter) placed wouldn’t have mattered much, but what are the odds this guy did the same? Rather high, I’m guessing, since that’s… just what people did back in the day, regardless of how much sense it makes to us.

Why do people do that? Honestly, hoaxes in archaeology are such a massive waste of time and only disappoint people.

Plenty of attention whores on the internet, for one thing. After all, anyone with a computer and relative knowledge of how to use it can post anything (including archaeology hoaxes), though why they post fake news instead of “legit” content is the other half of the mystery there. 😕

Well, in any case, I guess people who believed they had something to fear can breath a sigh of relief. Still, 2022 being “one of those years”—and considering the “interesting times” we live in, more generally—let’s not rule out our next Genghis thread actually being legit, either. We still have a ways to go before things calm down again, which means plenty of time for surprises and earthshaking discoveries—both for better, and for worse.
