Theoretical proposal to do a fly-by of Oumuamua in the 2050's using a Jupiter and Sun fly-by assist, with the probe launched in 2030.
Slowly raises hand......
Why are we trying to get the attention of the Zentraedi????
Lets just leave them be I say.

Tell me about it and we can't even use Minmei to culture them.Slowly raises hand......

meh...just send a playlist of the most annoying pop songs. It's a wash at that point.Tell me about it and we can't even use Minmei to culture them.
No, it would get slung out to Jupiter more for directional assist, with the speed being from dropping back to do a near 180-swing around the sun to get the momentum needed. So, if I understand that correctly, the probe would attempt to slingshot around Jupiter and the Sun? In some science fiction, that's how they make big jumps between star systems.

Getting pics and spectrum of the object would be enough. In the unlikely event this ever gets past the drawing board and unlikelier one that upon close observation Oumuamua is clearly artificial, what other options are there? I mean, based off my limited understanding of this proposal, the probe isn't going to be able to decelerate and will just hurtle past Oumuamua with enough time to snap a few close-up pictures.
It would be fascinating to see how human culture develops on a new world. It’s one of the reasons I’m half convinced we’ll have multiple planetary nations in the future, because given long enough the “Martians”, filled with a frontier spirit, might wonder why distant Earth gets to tell them what to do...Will future colonists on the moon and Mars develop new accents?
As humans start to spread out among the solar system, new accents may begin to emerge in isolated colonies. But why does this happen and what will these new accents sound like?www.livescience.com
