What it basically says on the tin.

It looks like there is a definitive desire in France for a pivot to the right, and towards a Trump-style populism.

So, will somebody manage to dethrone the Establishment prick.

Poke @Arlos

Who poked me from my slumber?!? *peak at thread*

I mean, I am definitely not voting for that asshole Macron, unless he’s facing Melenchon.
There was already a desire for something « different » last election, but it was ridden by Macron, who ended up being more of the same, just worse.

Rufus Shinra, a notorious SB poster who was... basically French. Very French. As in every possible negative French stereotype rolled into one. The only reason we know he was an actual Frenchman and not a troll pretending to be a Saturday Morning Cartoon caricature is because he accidentally doxxed himself at one point while boasting about something else.

Dude was eventually banned for, IIRC, arguing that US companies needed to follow French laws and if they didn't French corporations would send peerless French Special Forces into the US to kidnap all the CEOs' loved ones and use them as hostages to force all the US companies to follow French laws.

Oh, that guy, now I think I remember.
Was his avatar a dinosaur with a top hat or something?

The two stage election process makes it easy for the Establishment to contain voter revolts.
The FN (which is not exactly a right wing party) with:
- FPTP and 35% of the vote? Usually a large portion of parliament, occasionally even a majority of seats.
- Proportional representation and 35% of the vote? Same - i.e. either a large portion of parliament, occasionally even a majority of seats.
- Two stage elections and 35% of the vote in the first round? Maybe 5% of seats as in the run-off all the establishment parties gang up against the "undesirables". See previous elections in France.

Do French Presidential elections follow the same rules as those for the Assembly?
I.e. if no majority, then two largest vote getters plus all those supported by one eighth of registered voters go into the playoffs.
If yes - does Melenchon qualify? Is a three way 2nd round possible?

No, it’s only a 2 way 2nd round, the 2nd round is made to be decisive.
So, you vote next week?

How convenient, Azovstal will probably be pacified by then, and probably some french stuff will pop up there. :D

Two weeks, I think?

1st round results.

Macron 28.1%

Le Pen 23.3%

Not great, not terrible. I've been made to understand that the Le Pen surname is something of a curse for Marine. Lots of bad feeling is attached to it.
Only estimations so far, not the definitive result.

I heard Zemmour didn't make it, which is too bad. He seemed the most interesting of the candidates.

Politically speaking, Zemmour was a newbie with no brand recognition (I know he hosted a television show, but that doesn't quite translate into political clout) and he could veer into a spot of extremism that was a bit too much for the French Right. Still, for his first go, nearly 7% of the vote is not a bad number.

It’s weird how Mélenchon suddenly took off within two week when he polled around 10% before, guess all socialist got sick of how fractured their party was and choose to rally to the lefty with the highest score in the polls, still, it surprised me considering how hard left he is.
What’s certain is that the center got even smaller this time around, ceding ground to extremist form both side.
