not gonna disagree with you there. the person who cooked should have been up front with things and asked if her roommate would have been willing to try some of her vegan food substitute. the person with allergies should have been up front with her allergies and asked about the food her roommate cooked. personally I give more blame to the roommate than the allergic person but if I had allergies I would be sure to mention it and ask very regularly. it can be sad that the roommate had her life destroyed over this but also be true that people need to not be doing this shit and it is illegal and needs to be enforced. When I was hospitalized for all of January and half of February one of the first things the hospital staff did was ask me about my known allerigies and dietary restrictions. I said that these are things I can't be given: caffeine, cinnamon, pineapple, grapes, olives, artificial sweteners, and acetaminophen.
The allergies meant decaf coffee only and no chocolate or soda. The acetaminophen alergy meant that I couldn't be given Tylenol - a go-to non-prescription painkiller - without experiencing side effects.
Playing bait-and-switch with what you're giving someone is dirty pool which should quite deservedly be punished very harshly.
