Meanwhile, while not directly because of COVID, I lost my mother to fucking brain cancer (deterioration and then palliative care), and the lockdowns and all the medical paranoia bullshit imposed on medical staff at hospitals caused interference with family seeing her and her treatments, despite the team trying to save her being utter heroes and going above and beyond.

I judge the Guardian writer more then Paltrow, we don't expect actresses to be able to read a room their job is to entertain people after all, but a reporter should know fucking well that this isn't going to get much sympathy from a public that got utterly hosed for 2 years strait and are still pissed about it.

That's actually a really good point. Ask a question, they got an answer. She wasn't likely actively comparing her suffering or "loss" to anyone else.

And some celebrities did lose loved ones as well, or died themselves. Celebrities finding lack of employment is technically true during the pandemic. :p
