Debating about Covid at this point seems pointless and moot.

The lines have been drawn, people have chosen their sides. At this point people are just shouting past each other and ticking each other off. I'd argue at this point people either need to seperate from each other, or simply drop the subject entirly and let God & hindsight sort everything out.

Yeah the only reason people still bother talking is due to it being a public health concern but it does seem like a lot of wasted words by now. But unfortunately regardless of how smart or ignorant you are, you can still take up as much space in an ICU or infect as many people as anyone else can.

I guess the main thing to be thankful for is that the virus (as of yet) isn't nearly as virulent as originally advertised.

well depending on what news source you listen to, it's some kind of doomsday bug and we are all living on borrowed time....that or a hoax. :p

There are plenty of us middle grounders left.

Me? I'm against shutdowns. I'm okay with masks if that's the alternative.

I also recognize that they (US government) lied to us, and could be lying now, and I don't trust them. Not one bit. The masks could be a lie. After all, a few weeks before they told everyone to wear masks, they were telling us masks don't work. Who knows what's true at this point. They lie. They are probably lying right now.

That said, this isn't NEARLY as bad as we were originally told. Shut downs were a mistake of epic proportions. It's not close to as deadly as we anticipated.

It's real, it's serious, you should take precautions and even if they aren't 100%, just wear the masks in public just to be on the safe side. It's not a big deal. I don't like them either, it's hard to breath and they aren't comfortable. Whatever. It doesn't hurt to wear them, and if it can help, that's fine with me.

So I typically manage to piss off both sides. Tells me i'm doing something right lol.

I think a lot of the blame can be laid at the feet of Fauci.

He admitted he downplayed the importance/usefulness of masks early on 'to protect supplies for first responders and health care workers', which seems like a load of crap given we know even a basic cloth mask drastically reduces transmission rates. That falsehood was part of why the shutdowns happened, instead of much more practical mask mandates.

I think Trump is someone not all the knowledgable about medical stuff, and he (like most of us) thought the CDC head was above partisan BS and hysteria mongering. Unfortunately we were all wrong in that regard.

Exactly. What Fauci should have said was "right now we really need to preserve masks for the healthcare workers, please don't go buying all of them up, we desperately need them."

Instead he decided to lie, for our own good. Well, fuck off Fauci. What my own good is, is up to me. What I want, is the truth. That way, I can reach the decision on what my own good entails..that's my job as a person. I decide what's in my interest, not Fauci. Why should I trust any of these people at all, after they've blatantly lied to us, and even came clean and straight up told us that they knowingly lied to us? How do I know they're not lying now? They've demonstrated that they will. They've proven themselves untrustworthy, so I simply don't trust them.

So I'll just play it safe and wear the masks. Fuck off with more shutdowns though.

It literally doesn't matter anymore we've had millions I'm the streets for 2 months. Any chance of containment is long gone by now. So take whatever precautions you want to personally but there is no real justification for lockdowns.
Oh but those protests lowered the infection rate! (Yes there are people actually arguing this)

They did, good for the immune system somehow.
The argument I heard was that because of the protests, more people stayed home.

Which..makes no sense. Because many essential businesses were still open, and then in addition to that, you have thousands of people marching in the streets.

Wow I just can't for the life of me figure out how a spike happened. Such a mystery. No one will ever know.

I respectfully disagree. Truth is important. And people notice when someone stands up for a side which turns out to be 100% truthful in hindsight. (That, or they stop noticing truth in general, and walking around in a world full of pointy rocks with your eyes metaphorically shut tight is not adaptive.)

Fauci lost all credibility with me when he praised new York for how it dealt with covid.

They put infected people in old person facilities.

Fauci is a blatantly political moron.

we should just fire him for lying and replace him with some one else.

I have heard arguments that there were not enough medical supplies and the CDC nor Fauci lied to us. I have heard reopening is what caused the surge, not the protests.

Honestly at this point, as shitty as it sounds it's just going to be the sort of disease that you get and live or get and die. There's no vaccine yet; there's no real way of avoiding the thing short of locking down the entire fucking country and like the flu it's just going to burn through us until we either die of it or get better. I hate to sound callous but peoples lives are being destroyed by this lockdown.
