I have very little sympathy for the religion of peace, and the Chinese seem to know how to handle Islamic terrorism in a way the west clearly can not.

At the same time, they will use the same methods on Tibetans, Chinese Christians, and so on.

Just what a fucked up world we live in.

"Chinese fishing vessels annually come to the international waters around the Galapagos, but this year, the fleet is significantly larger than before and has come within a closer range of the islands"

As they strip the seas around Asia they expand into other ones further abroad. You'll probably see some new international agreements to bring overfishing under control come from this, ones which China won't sign of course but it's a start.

Oh, lovely. They've sent me a mo-ron.

Will there be a semi war over fish?

I don't think fighting but more tensions to add to the cauldron. Chinas government is just doing what it does. It has no shame and no accountability that isn't forced upon it. So it will push and push and bully anyone who objects until it either gets its way or gets forced to back down. It's fishing fleets have their governments support and are probably even operating under government orders.

Trump is actually the first one to really push back, in part because as leader of the USA he's in the best position to do so.

N. Korea is subservient to China and has said nothing about it's fishermen being murdered or its fish catch being destroyed. This is a country that can barely feed itself. Small microstates in the Pacific would be a pushover for the Chinese government. So that's probably the next point of tension in this shitshow.

Haven’t watched news in awhile, but last I checked Duterte was trying to have good relations with China

Honestly, hope he tells them to fuck off, though we may not have the firepower to deal with China
China has done many things but if there's one that any country would unite over is resources in their neck of the woods being taken by foreigners. And China's been blatantly stealing all the fish to sustain themselves.

I don't need to be a historian to know this reeks of a form of neo colonialism.

Local fishing industries would hate this especially when all the fish are taken and nothings left.

Problem is partially awareness and well, China’s still got much “soft power” left and probably money it doesn’t really have to bribe and/or buy out local industries and governments

How many people still believe that bullshit about China being the way to the future or best place to do business longterm in?

After Covid that number is decreasing.

Fortunately many of the mircostates of the Pacific have good relations with the US for reasons just like these so they can probably get the USN to help them out. Plus they're far enough away from China that the smaller ships China uses to protect its predatory fishing fleets don't have the endurance to get there and China lacks the fleet train to enable them to do so to boot

It's a big country surrounded by smaller ones. A wannabe Germany?

Japan had their shit kicked in so I don't picture them to be like Britain.
Why not we whipped dad and so have others. Hell you could easily argue that like with Britan being America's closet ally in Europe. Japan holds a similar spot in Asia even both islands.

China has been really unsubtle in its aggression lately. The COVID outbreak, new plagues, and failing dams have worked them up into a frenzy.

If I was a Japanese politician, I'd look into a way to try to discourage the locusts from thieving by arming those fishing boats. An alibi if the Chinese ask why could simply be "To keep the pirates away of course.".

It's better than sucking their thumbs and letting China make-believe that it's flexing on everyone.

it serves two purposes.

1. It gives china's food and fish.
2. China is fucked, their the single most over leveraged country in human history. They have the subprime crisis waiting in the wings on steriods waiting to rip apart their economy. This is a doomday weapon that will go off and put them into a depression and this will happen weather there is a trade war or not. The CCP's goal is too piss off the rest of the world and get them to hate china and then use the chinese nationalist response to that anger to maintain power.

I do not know if that will work.

This may have something to do with it.
